As a core part of our small but clinically diverse team of speech and langugae therapists and assistants, this role will primarily provide assessment, management and therapy to a range of in-patients across all areas of our acute general hospital. In addition to traditional 'bedside' assessments, the postholder will be involved in objective assessment of swallowing using Videofluoroscopy and FEES, may be involved in the assessment of laryngeal function for designated patients using EELS, and, if business cases are successful, will be involved in developing the service use of EMST and Pharyngeal Electrical Stimulation (Phagenyx).
Dependent on the successful applicants interests, there may be an opportunity to also have an out-patient session to develop additional clinical skills in a non-acute environment
Main duties of this role:
to provide specialist assessment and management to patients with a range of acquired disorders of communication/swallowing who are admitted to wards at Basildon Hospital
to independently manage and differentially diagnose patients following assessment
to work as part of the integrated MDT to provide best patient care and outcomes, and the delivery of joined up care planning
to provide therapy care plans which can be provided to patients by our clinical support workers
to help support the training and development of junior staff, assistants, and SALT students
