Highways Specialist Subcontractor
Location: Darlington
Salary: £45,000 - £55,000 + car allowance + benefits
Lemon Drizzle Recruitment have been exclusively appointed to recruit an experienced Quantity Surveyor for a specialist highways subcontractor based in Darlington.
Company Overview
This company works on highways and specialises in traffic lights, road signs, civil engineering, and EV charging ports. They've been established for 12 years and have significantly grown their turnover over the last 5 years.
They work on highways nationwide and have exciting new projects commencing for Tier 1 highways contractors in the North East. Projects will fall under NEC form of contract and will cover traffic lights, road signs, civil engineering, and EV charging ports/connections.
They have a dynamic team and offer a relaxed culture where everyone gets involved to get the job done. Working in a small team means you'll juggle multiple projects simultaneously and you will be exposed to other key roles within the business along with Estimating and Quantity Surveying. The team often meets up for out-of-work activities such as golf and has team nights out and other social events.
You will be office-based 8-5 Mon-Fri in Darlington and will be expected to visit sites as required. Flexibility will be offered as needed, as this company appreciates that sometimes things come up and work needs to fit around it.
Responsibilities
You will manage projects of various sizes ensuring clear and accurate budgets are produced. You will maintain effective relationships with both clients and internal departments to ensure the contract is completed within its projected budget.
1. Support the Commercial Director/Commercial Manager in developing and implementing the business's commercial strategy within your projects.
2. Assist with the development, implementation, and adherence to the company's commercial strategy.
3. Manage multiple projects of varying sizes and complexities.
4. Ensure that clear and accurate budgets are prepared at tender award and then monthly per project via Elite.
5. Procure works to meet and exceed programme and ideally tender budgets.
6. Prepare sub-contract documents for tendering.
7. Manage client and subcontractor accounts.
8. Conduct weekly reviews and analysis of programme, progress, and cost monitoring.
9. Manage change control.
10. Engage in risk & opportunity management.
11. Financial monitoring and reporting and liaising with the project team.
12. Develop and agree on project forecasts with operational teams.
13. Conduct detailed commercial analysis of various outputs.
14. Provide commercial support on tenders.
15. Submit monthly applications for payments.
16. Follow the company-approved work procedures.

Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of construction processes, cost management, and contracts, and will collaborate with project teams to deliver cost-effective and timely results.

2. An experienced Quantity Surveyor and degree qualified in quantity surveying or commercial management.
3. Great at prioritising effectively and able to manage multiple responsibilities and deadlines.
4. A strong communicator able to build relationships with people at all levels.
5. Detail-oriented and able to identify necessary improvements.
6. Proficient in Microsoft Office.
7. Well-organised with exceptional timekeeping.
