Senior Clinical Scientist
Band 7
Job overview
Applications are invited from highly motivated and enthusiastic clinical scientists for a Band 7 Senior Clinical Scientist post. The applicant will be a key member of a dedicated cross site team working within Clinical Biochemistry for the Northern Care Alliance (NCA) and Wigan. The NCA NHS Foundation Trust is one of the largest NHS Trusts in the UK. Serving over 1 million people across Greater Manchester, the clinical biochemistry department provides a comprehensive analytical and clinical advisory service for several primary, secondary and tertiary care services in the region. This position will be based primarily at the Salford Royal site, but applicants may need to work at any of the laboratory sites within the NCA. You will be joining a team of 4 consultants, 4 principal and 1 other senior Clinical Scientist and STP trainees. Candidates will be encouraged to develop specialist interests within any area of the service and to be involved in delivering teaching and training. You will be supported in working towards full FRCPath qualification.
We encourage the application of non-HCPC registered clinical scientists currently in the final year of STP training. If such a candidate was successful, they would be employed initially as a Band 6 Clinical Scientist on a fixed term basis. Upon successful achievement of all the required criteria for the post, the candidate will progress to the permanent Band 7.
Main duties of the job
This is a unique opportunity to make a major contribution to an integrated biochemistry service. The department is looking to execute several forward-thinking large-scale projects over the next year (including implementing a new LIMS and UK leading automation) and you will be integral in shaping the service and to assist in innovative service development. You will take an active role in the provision of a clinical advisory service on the Salford site and to help develop harmonised practice across the Northern Care Alliance. Dependent upon experience, you will be involved in quality improvement, audit and POCT activities in the department, ensuring adherence to ISO15189 standards.
