An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full time, permanent Ward Assistant to join the team in Adult Critical Care
We are looking for an enthusiastic, reliable, hardworking, ward assistant who will work as an integral part of the team ensuring a clean, safe and comfortable environment at all times.
The role is important for the smooth running of the Adult Critical Care unit. Whilst working under the direction of the ward managers and supporting a multi-disciplinary team. You will be expected to show initiative and communicate well, both in writing and verbally. The post holder does require basic computer skills. The post holder must recognise, prioritise and respond to emergency situations. They will need to show effective use of resource management and ensure stock is maintained. Must be able to undertake non- patient safety manual handling manoeuvres.
This post well require staff to work a variety of shifts including weekends and Bank Holidays. you will also be required to support other Critical Care areas and to participate in internal rotation.
You will also require experience in dealing with patients and clients within the healthcare setting.

You will need excellent interpersonal skills, in order to facilitate seamless communication with all levels of staff both face to face and over the telephone. The post holder will be expected to take ownership of the stock levels within the ward, to include ordering of stock. You will also be required to maintain a high level of cleanliness within the ward.

Some of the main duties are but not restricted to as per the below:
To provide practical help, organisation and to facilitate day to day running of the ward/unit.
To ensure a high standard of cleanliness throughout the unit whilst also taking responsibility for aspects of stock maintenance and control.
The main elements of the role will include monitoring cleaning, minor maintenance services referrals.
Being a proactive team player within the unit and occasionally cover reception.
· To maintain a clean and tidy environment (office, storeroom, side rooms, bays, patient areas, lounges, bed areas, treatment room, sluice)
· To clean equipment as per S.O.P. and on a rotational bases.
· To manage ward linen and laundry supply
· To assist with the daily health and safety checks, i.e. have an awareness of health and safety issues and report accordingly.
· To keep the treatment room / utility room stocked with equipment
· To work with Material management to ensure correct stock levels maintained and that stock is correctly stored and maintained
· To maintain lost property
· To help prepare and clean the bed areas for admissions and following discharge.
· To make beds and clear bed spaces daily.
· To ensure all equipment sent for repair and yearly PAT tests undertaken
· To undertake any other duties that may reasonably be required
· To monitor the ward environment, co-ordinate any repairs by liaising with the estates department and to take follow up action as necessary to ensure that tasks are completed.
· To assist in the order of non - stock goods especially in relation to PPE and sampling equipment.
· Undertake, in conjunction with Ward Manager, weekly cleanliness audits.
