If so, GSL Education are looking for a SEMH Teaching Assistant (SEMH TA) to work in schools across Dorchester, providing essential support to students facing social and emotional challenges. This role is ideal for individuals with a nurturing approach who are committed to helping students build confidence, resilience, and independence in their learning journey. As a SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting students who require additional help managing their emotions and behaviour. Working closely with teachers and support staff, you will assist in creating a positive, structured, and safe learning environment where students feel valued and encouraged to succeed. Responsibilities of an SEMH Teaching Assistant: Provide one-to-one and small group support to students with SEMH needs. Assist in the implementation of EHCPs (Education, Health, and Care Plans), ICPs (Individual Care Plans), and IEPs (Individual Education Plans) to ensure personalised student support. Foster a calm and structured learning environment, helping students regulate their emotions. Encourage positive behaviour strategies and social interaction. Support students with developing coping mechanisms and resilience for managing their emotions. Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and external professionals to provide tailored support. Help maintain a safe and inclusive classroom where all students feel supported. SEMH TA Requirements: Previous experience as a SEMH Teaching Assistant or in a similar role is desirable. A CACHE Level 2 or 3, NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Childcare, Teaching Assistance, or Behaviour Management is beneficial but not essential. A Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Education, or a related field is an advantage. Understanding of behaviour management techniques and experience supporting students with SEMH needs. Strong communication and de-escalation skills to support students effectively. A patient, empathetic, and adaptable approach to working with young people.
