York and Scarborough Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is delighted to invite candidates to apply to work with us as a Consultant Ophthalmologist, specialising in Corneal Surgery and External Eye Disease.
Job plans, special interests and hours can be developed to complement departmental and individual requirements. A proposed job plan can be viewed within the application documents, to be discussed and agreed with the successful candidate.
The successful candidates will work within our Ophthalmic team having the opportunity to develop pathways whilst complementing an existing, well established and expanding eye care for York and the East Coast. The service is consultant led with direct consultant supervision.
You will become part of a team of 22 Consultants in the Trust. Please note, to support our services consultants are expected to work across the Trust's Hospital sites.
The principle duty of this post is to provide a comprehensive clinical service to patients from and around York.
• To, at all times, comply with the GMC requirements of Duties of a Doctor
• To ensure that patient confidentiality is maintained at all times.
• To undertake duties as defined within the job description in so far as practicable and in agreement with your clinical director.
• To be responsible and managerially accountable for the reasonable and effective use of any Trust resources that you use and influence, and professionally accountable to the Medical Director.
• On commencement to ensure personal attendance at the Trust’s Corporate Induction.
• To participate in the Trust’s statutory and mandatory training programme
• To be responsible for the clinical management of in and out patients under your care.
• To comply with Trust policies and procedures where appropriate.

Applicants must possess FRCOphth or equivalent and be fully registered with the GMC and hold a licence to practise. Applicants must have entry on the GMC Specialist Register for Ophthalmology via CCT (proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of the interview date), CESR or European Community Rights.
We provide acute and community services for approximately 530,000 people living in and around York and Scarborough, providing a range of specialist services over a wider catchment area across North Yorkshire, East Yorkshire and Ryedale.
In April 2011 the Trust took over the management of some community based services in Selby, York, Scarborough, Whitby and Ryedale. This includes some community nursing and specialist services as well as Archways in York, St Monica’s in Easingwold, The New Selby War Memorial Hospital, Whitby Hospital and Malton Hospital.
Scarborough Hospital is the Trust's second largest hospital. It has an Accident and Emergency department and provides acute medical and surgical services, including trauma, intensive care and cardiothoracic services to the population and visitors to the North East Yorkshire Coast.
All posts require a broad experience in Ophthalmology. It is expected that consultants should be willing to work across different sites as the combined service requires and according to their special interests. This advertised post is based in York.
