Accept prescriptions checking accuracy of patient details. Dispense medicines for patients following guidelines, under the supervision of the Pharmacy Technicians, with the final check by a Checking Technician or Pharmacist. Ensure that all information needed for accurate stock control, dose banding and prescription issues data is recorded using both paper systems and the computerised Pharmacy Information System (PIS). Liaise with Procurement staff about urgently required medicines, and inform patients and other health care staff about supply problems / delays. Dispense specialist hospital-only medicines and unlicensed medicines which require accurate, detailed records. Dispense oral and dose banded chemotherapy medicines taking necessary precautions detailed in standard operating procedures. Dispense controlled drugs and ensure that all legally required records are accurate and up to date. Participate in the Ward Stock "Topping - up" service with responsibility for a designated group of Wards. This will require discussion with Pharmacists and Ward Managers about medicines usage and stock levels. Receive prescriptions and manage the electronic prescriptions receipt system which includes the booking in and booking out of prescriptions and any helpful information. Retrieve information from the computerised patient administration system to complete patient data on both hard copy prescriptions and the electronic receipt system. Answer the telephone according to Standard Operating Procedures and respond or re-direct calls as necessary. Contact wards and departments when urgent items or controlled drugs are ready for collection. Contact patients at home to arrange for them to collect any outstanding dispensed medicines. Organise and liaise with transport for delivery of medicines off site. Take telephone messages for Pharmacy staff recording full details and contact numbers. Take verbal messages from wards / departments regarding medicines, ensuring accuracy of patient and medication details. Issue completed treatments to hospital staff and check for anything else nearing completion. Check and unpack stock requisitions and restock shelves when required. Greet clients at the door e.g. Drivers, Porters, Nurses, Doctors and other Hospital Staff, confirm identity and liaise with appropriate staff before admitting into department. Prepare the reception area for the days activity ensuring adequate stocks and consumables. File documentation appropriately on a daily and monthly basis for ease of access. Send and Receive faxed documents (e.g. Treatment Plans, Electronic prescriptions). Record full details of any calls from Pharmacy staff regarding sickness etc. on the Absence reporting form and inform their line manager. Train other staff in reception duties. Participate in the induction training of all new Pharmacy staff. Adhere strictly to working procedures and departmental policies both for drug supply and security.
