Hours: 37.5 per week/ this is a 5 day a week job in a 7 day a week kitchen

The kitchen at Hospitalfield serves the wider business of Hospitalfield Trading which includes residential hires, the garden café, day hires and events alongside the arts programme and artist residency programme.
We wish to appoint an enthusiastic, friendly, energetic, efficient, and committed chef to join us at this important and exciting time. Applicants should have demonstrable experience of working in a similar busy café/restaurant environment but also, on top of cooking skills, the ability to provide warm and welcoming customer service for our residents.
Roles & Responsibilities
This will be an excitingly varied role cooking for residents, café customers, private hires, events, markets, and even some community food projects. You will be cooking a wide range of cuisines and will need to be able to cater for customers with different dietary requirements. Some of the time you will work alongside the head chef and some of the time you will work independently. We are looking for someone who is flexible in their work approach and who relishes a challenge.
Responsibilities:
* Work under the supervision of the Head Chef to support the smooth running of operations.
* Prepare and cook meals for the café and residents.
* Bake cakes, pastries, and other baked goods.
* Contribute to the creation and development of new menu items.
* Plan menus for the residents, ensuring a variety of healthy and balanced options.
* Order supplies from vendors and collaborate with the gardener to source fresh ingredients.
* Ensure strict adherence to food hygiene and safety standards.
Skills, Experience, and Attributes
Essential:
* Previous experience working as a Second Chef or in a similar kitchen role.
* Expertise in bread and cake baking.
* Strong knowledge of food preparation, cooking techniques, and kitchen operations.
* Understanding of special dietary requirements (e.g., gluten-free, dairy-free).
* Passion for vegetarian and vegan cooking.
* Ability to work quickly and efficiently under pressure.
* Stamina to lead and work long shifts in a fast-paced environment.
* Calm, approachable, and professional demeanor.
* Minimum Elementary Food Hygiene Certificate, or the ability to work towards obtaining it.
Desirable:
* Ability to manage and lead a kitchen team.
* Knowledge of local food networks in the Angus or Tayside area.
Notes on Hours:
You will work 5 days from 7 with seasonal variations where we operate a 7-day kitchen at high season. Shift times vary and are worked around mealtimes for artists in residence, café opening hours and additional events, therefore flexibility is required.
