About the Role
We're looking for an experienced Senior Geotechnical Design Engineer to join our dynamic team and help deliver outstanding design solutions for critical infrastructure projects across the water and rail sectors.
In this role, you'll take technical ownership of design packages, mentor junior staff, and work closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure the delivery of safe, high-quality, and cost-effective designs.
Key Responsibilities
Produce geotechnical and civil engineering design deliverables, including calculations, reports, and drawings.
Lead the preparation of ground investigation (GI) specifications, interpretive reports, and design documentation.
Ensure designs comply with all applicable technical standards, industry regulations, and internal quality processes.
Support and mentor CAD technicians, graduates, and junior engineers.
Participate in design reviews, Interdisciplinary Checks (IDC), and HAZOP/HAZID meetings (KM7).
Estimate resource requirements for project tasks and monitor delivery progress.
Manage and record project design changes in accordance with governance procedures.
Required Qualifications & Experience
Minimum 10 years of experience in geotechnical and/or civil engineering design.
Strong knowledge of geotechnical principles, site investigations, and reporting.
HND or Degree-qualified in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering (or similar discipline).
Proficient in engineering software and general IT tools.
Registered with a professional institution and actively working towards Chartership.
Previous experience in regulated infrastructure environments (e.g., rail, utilities, highways, nuclear, oil & gas).
Preferred Qualifications & Experience
Chartered Engineer status (CEng or equivalent).
Experience in both geotechnical and civil design across multidisciplinary projects.
Familiarity with engineering drawing practices and digital design tools.
Experience in the water or railway sectors.
Awareness of construction methods, materials, and ground investigation procedures.
