Description
NOTE: this role is covering a specific geographical area in the London area. We are looking for candidates based in or close to the north west quadrant of the M25. We will be unable to accept applications from candidates living outside this specific area.
Among Checkit's core products are smart sensors that monitor things like temperature, water flow or air quality, and send alerts to our central hub if readings fall outside expected boundaries. This helps our customers to ensure that critical systems are working as expected, and to know quickly if something is wrong so they can fix it before it becomes a problem. We help the NHS keep things like blood products and vaccines at the correct temperature by monitoring their storage fridges, and we help food retailers to reduce waste by monitoring refrigerated display cabinets in their stores. These sensors are calibrated and maintained by our team of Field Service Engineers, who visit customer sites to install the equipment and make sure they are in full working order.
This role is basically a Field Service Engineer in training. You’ll start from scratch, learning the ropes of how to calibrate sensors using our technical calibration equipment, under the close guidance and supervision of our Field Service Engineer team. As you progress you will be signed off to complete calibrations alone, visiting customer sites to check their sensors are in full working order and measuring correctly. After a year or so in role we expect you to progress to a fully-fledged Field Service Engineer, handling full installations and maintenance as well as calibrations.
We are looking for someone keen to begin a career in the calibration sector, who has a technical brain capable of understanding this kind of equipment, and a positive and enthusiastic attitude towards learning and development. We will provide full training, so this represents an amazing opportunity for someone to get a start in this industry. While some sort of technical qualification or experience would be helpful, the most important thing is drive, determination, a positive attitude and a real willingness to learn and be trained.
You will be provided with all the equipment you need to do the job including a company car, laptop, mobile phone, tools, work clothing and PPE.
What you'll be doing
* Learning and training against relevant procedures and documented standards of calibration.
* Learning how to calibrate temperature sensors, monitoring systems and equipment at head office in Fleet and also at customer sites across various industries including medical, pharmaceutical, laboratory, food retail, hospitality and facilities management.
* Ensuring that all work undertaken on site meets the requirements of the customer, maintaining accurate records, reporting and audit trails.
* Progressing over the course of approximately a year from the Trainee Calibration Technician position to a fully-fledged Field Service Engineer, where you’ll be involved in all aspects of sensor installation and maintenance alongside the calibration aspects of the position.
What we're looking for
* No specific academic qualifications are required, however any qualification or apprenticeship in a technical or engineering subject would be a distinct advantage. We are looking for someone with a technical brain who can quickly get up to speed with the requirements of the role.
* No specific experience is required as full training will be provided, however any experience in a technical of engineering role of some sort would be advantageous. Any experience of calibration or measurement would be a real bonus.
* As the role involves driving to customer sites, it is essential that you have a full UK driving licence with no points or endorsements.
* The ability to quickly understand and internalise technical information and concepts is important, as the ability to learn and understand technical processes.
* Good face-to-face communication skills are important, as you will be dealing with customers on their premises on a daily basis. We need someone warm, friendly and engaging with a strong desire to deliver brilliant customer service every single day.
* Good general IT skills, familiar with MS Office suite and Outlook, with the ability to pick up new systems quickly.
* Strong desire to learn and constantly improve knowledge and understanding.
* Ability to put learning into practice, with a practical nature.
* Excellent attention to detail, well organised and able to think logically.
* Strong work ethic, motivated and driven to succeed.
* Trustworthy, reliable, consistent and responsible.
* Desire to build a career in the engineering sector.
* Strong team player who works well with others and enjoys being part of a team.
