About the role
You will play a key role in supporting children and families. You will manage qualified and unqualified workers, with a focus on maintaining the highest professional standards through regular formal and informal supervision of staff. You will act as mentor for colleagues and take a lead in the induction of new staff. You will be expected to lead and develop areas of work within the team.
You will stay up to date with relevant legislation, law and best practice and we continue to develop continued professional development via excellent training opportunities.
You are an experienced front-line children's social worker who is committed to working alongside the team manager to provide support for the Social Workers and Child Social Care Assessors in a fast pace and supportive environment.
You are free-thinking and confident in decision making which will be demonstrated in your excellent management oversight on referrals received by the team.
You will be supportive and passionate to assist the manager to develop a high performing team, and to support in the development of staff to achieve the best outcomes for children and young people.
You will have advanced communication skills, you will be experienced in chairing meetings and previous experience of managing complex cases.
The Look after Children’s Team work with children and families from the point of care proceedings and we continue to support Looked after Children until permanency which could include a plan of Adoption, rehabilitation home, Special Guardianship or long term care until they reach the age of 15 and transition to the Leaving Care service.
As an Assistant Team Manager you will manage a pod of social workers with caseloads of children in proceedings, on Interim Care Orders and Full Care orders.
You will partake in the Team’s Duty Rota twice per week and be office based on those days. You will add management oversight to inbound referrals for the Team whilst on Duty, providing clear management oversight and direction to the social workers.

This Assistant Team Manager post in the Family Support Team/ Looked after children team and Assessment intervention team attracts a recruitment incentive payment of £2,996 as a welcome to the Council.
In certain conditions an additional retention incentive payment of £2,996 may also be applicable on the anniversary of your appointment if you remain in service in an eligible role/ team. This payment will be pro rata for part time employees and is subject to normal employee deductions e.g. pension, NI and Tax and other terms and conditions apply.
