Role Overview
Reporting to the Process Engineer, a production technician is required (working shift) to play a key role in the processing, final assembly, and testing of X-ray tubes ready for their incorporation into RTT scanning machines. This will involve operation of large vacuum bakeout ovens and vacuum equipment, final assembly processes, X-ray tube testing, and high voltage tube conditioning.
Your normal working hours will be 37 hours per week, following a weekly alternating shift pattern. The shifts will be from 6.00am to 2.00pm or 2.00pm to 10.00pm, Monday to Thursday, and 6.00am to 1.30pm or 1.30pm to 09.00pm on Fridays.
Responsibilities
* Assisting in the vacuum bake-out of X-ray tubes including diagnosis and rectification of vacuum leaks.
* Post bake-out Tube Activation, application of lead plates, tube assembly completion, and setup for testing of X-ray tubes.
* High Voltage conditioning and testing of X-ray tubes.
* Performing preventative maintenance activities as required on vacuum equipment and high voltage test rigs.
* Accurate and consistent recording of data including the use of Excel.
* Use of various plant including vacuum bake-out ovens, conditioning rigs, and overhead gantry crane.
* Provide an ongoing contribution to the development/improvement of the above processes and safe working practices.
* Basic fault finding on X-ray tubes, test equipment, and vacuum systems.
* Raising Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) as required.
* Ensuring compliance with COSHH regulations.
* Organising and maintaining a safe and efficient working environment.
Qualifications
Essential:
* Previous experience working as a technician (or similar) in a production/laboratory/R&D/hi-tech engineering environment for approximately 3-4 years or more.
* Demonstrable experience in operating sophisticated manufacturing/processing/scientific equipment, ideally involving vacuum and high voltage systems.
* Familiarity with safe working practices and ensuring that others adhere to practices.
Familiarity with the following would be an advantage but is not essential:
* Production technician experience working on X-ray tubes or similar hi-tech/scientific/medical equipment.
* Experience working within a clean room environment.
* Helium leak checking of vacuum systems/components.
* Basic maintenance of vacuum systems.
* Working in accordance with a Quality system.
* Working in accordance with COSHH regulations.
* 5S, 6 Sigma Practices
* Handling of compressed gas cylinders
* Experience working around/with lifting equipment, e.g., gantry crane.
* Working in a hi-tech manufacturing or research environment.
* Technical qualifications in an Engineering or Scientific discipline to ONC/HND level (or significant experience in technical roles).
