General Overview
David Phillips is looking for an experienced Financial Controller to lead the transactional finance teams and ensure that the policies, processes and procedures are fit for purpose to sustain the business growth.
The David Phillips Group is a global real estate furnishings and services provider. The group provides interior design, furniture, accessories and installation services. This makes it possible to provide turn-key services to the highest profile developments throughout the UK and Australia.
The group turnover for the current trading year will be £49.5m, up 15%.This growth is the first step towards a likely sale transaction by the current Private Equity owners. The Financial Controller role will partner with both the teams across the business and the shareholders.
David Phillips has submitted an application to BCorp and has achieved Net Zero Carbon for scope 1 and scope 2 SECR. We acknowledge that this is only the first step. The business is on a journey with our customers to significantly reduce the carbon embedded in furniture through our rental and reuse programmes and transition of our van fleet.
Principal Tasks
Processes & procedures
* Carry out a review of all existing processes and procedures and report on their suitability, robustness and scalability for an organization to generate £75m+ Net Sales. To make recommendations to drive automation and then implement as agreed.
* Monitor and enforce the effective application of existing policies across the organisation.
Reporting
* Take primary responsibility for the production of monthly management accounts and corresponding commentary;
* Produce rolling 12 month and short-term 13 week cashflow forecasts;
* Oversee the production and analysis of detailed financial reporting (e.g. aged debtor and creditor reports, balance sheet and intercompany reconciliations).
* File all external reporting to government agencies (Companies House, HMRC etc.).
Day-to-day activities
* Manage the transactional finance team effectively to ensure it is supporting other areas of the group in a timely and efficient manner;
* Lead the monthly and annual accounting and filing process of the business.
* Communicate with all areas of the group to achieve the finance department’s objectives within the context of the broader business.
* Oversight of the working capital cycle and finance KPIs.
Other
* Lead planning and completion of the audit for filing within four months of year end.
* Implement and administer new initiatives as directed;
* Ensure the consistent and appropriate application of accounting policies; and
* Ensure the team has the adequate resources and skills in order to reach its objectives and perform in an efficient, accurate and timely fashion.
The Team
You will be working closely with the CFO to whom you will report directly on all matters.
You will be directly responsible for the management and performance of the transactional finance team, which presently includes:
* Management Accountant
Qualified experienced accountant responsible to preparing month end and general ledgers.
* Project Accountant
Part qualified accountant responsible for the control and reporting of 50% of group gross margin.
* Credit Control Manager and credit team of 2.5 FTE
The Manager overseas the operation of the credit control function. The team assist with the operation of the credit control function.
* Accounts Assistants (4)
Experienced accounts assistants whose primary responsibilities include invoicing, refunds and bank reconciliations.
* Accounts Payable senior and AP team of 2.5 FTE
The Manager is responsible for the processing and administration of all stock and non-stock invoices and payments. The AP assist with the processing of all stock and non-stock invoices and payments.
Experience
We are looking for an individual who can apply previous experience within a product business. You will build and develop the controls, processes and nurture the transactional finance team at David Phillips. The group comprises multiple legal entities, one of which is outside of the UK, you will lead the consolidation of the group results and the audit. You should be able to demonstrate prior examples where you have led the development of the finance function for an organization of a similar level of complexity and size.
David Phillips operates a Navision MIS, the intension is to upgrade to Business Central and ideally you should be familiar with this ERP.
You should be proficient in the use of Excel and able to present and communicate information in a clear and effective fashion.
