Overall Purpose/Objectives of Role:
Accountable for people, plant, product, and packaging delivery against clearly defined role outputs and responsibilities.
To pro-actively work with the packing team to achieve KPIs on a day-to-day basis, without compromising the integrity of health & safety and quality of product.
The Role:
1. Lead, inspire, and motivate a multi-disciplined team in the day-to-day shift activities throughout the packing operation, delegating effectively to develop a sense of pride and ownership in team performance.
2. Provide hands-on leadership to raise the capability of the teams.
3. Ensure adequate cover in terms of personnel, predicting/planning workforce through trends/seasons.
4. Ensure teams are briefed regularly and are fully aware of site standards, procedures, plans, and line performance.
5. Collaborate with other departments to support the delivery of the production plan against the budgeted targets and volumes, ensuring achievement of standards in all areas (Quality, hygiene, material, and labour utilisation).
6. Analyse performance information and communicate this information to the team to continuously identify ways to improve systems and reduce costs.
7. Communicate job expectations.
8. Plan, monitor, and appraise performance; coach, counsel, and manage team members.
9. Maintain workflow by monitoring steps of the process; observing control points and equipment; monitoring personnel and resources; initiating and fostering a spirit of cooperation within and between departments.
10. Complete packing plan by scheduling and assigning personnel; establishing priorities; monitoring progress; revising schedules; resolving problems; reporting results.
11. Resolve personnel problems by investigating issues; identifying solutions; recommending action.
12. Lead the manufacturing element of the daily PDR, providing a thorough review of the previous 24 hours and the next 24-hour plans.
13. Build an H&S culture to promote ownership of H&S within the operation, ensuring compliance with statutory and company H&S requirements.
14. Establish and maintain a culture within the operation that supports all aspects of Lean Manufacturing; continuously identify ways to reduce costs and improve systems and standards in the operation utilizing lean tools and techniques, to optimize efficiency and effectiveness of the operation.
15. Champion a culture of continuous development of the team through communication, training, coaching, and ad hoc projects.
16. Carry out HR related matters - monitor/manage performance and absence of teams, taking corrective measures where necessary either informally or formally through the disciplinary process; actively participate in the onboarding and subsequent induction process.
17. Other ad hoc duties as may be required from time to time.
Requirements for the role:
1. Supervisory/management experience; including developing, coaching, and discipline ideally gained within a food manufacturing environment.
2. Ability to motivate, direct, and lead aligning mindset to behaviours and company expectations.
3. Proven demonstration of an investigative and problem-solving approach.
4. Experience of safe systems of work.
5. Performance/absence management.
6. Solid understanding of HACCP and GMPs including regulatory requirements.
7. Awareness of BRC standards.
8. Experience of conducting/chairing meetings.
9. Working to and producing KPIs/weekly reports.
10. In-depth knowledge of SAP.
11. Developing KPIs.
12. Developing safe systems of work.
13. Knowledge of H&S, labour costs, and planning.
14. IOSH/NEBOSH Qualification.
15. High attention to detail.
16. Proficient computer literacy, predominantly Excel and Outlook.
17. Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
18. Able to communicate effectively at all levels.
19. Ability to prioritize workload.
20. Can adapt quickly to change.
