Main function of job
(Note: in addition to these functions employees are required to carry out such other duties as may reasonably be required).
To manage a portfolio of small to medium sized clients, companies, partnerships, sole traders and directors assisted by trainees and with support from other managers in the team. The postholder will also assist senior managers and directors with their portfolios.
Main duties
Main duties will revolve around compliance work and will include the following:
* Reviewing statutory accounts, adjusting for tax sensitive figures, finalising and submitting company tax returns
* Reviewing/preparing income tax computations and returns for sole traders and partnerships from accounts prepared internally
* Reviewing/preparing personal tax returns
* Reviewing/preparing forms P11Ds, PSAs, CIS returns and ERS returns
* Generally managing the corporate and personal compliance process and dealing with client communications and responding to ad hoc queries as appropriate
* Dealing with HMRC enquiries on factual matters relating to tax returns
* Development and training of junior staff
As the role develops the candidate will have the opportunity to become involved in tax planning and advice to clients on their portfolio working with senior manager, director or tax partner.
Equipment/software packages used
* Preparation of returns and computations is wholly computerised and the successful candidate will be expected to become fully conversant with Alphatax, CCH Audit Automation and CCH Personal Tax as well as standard packages such as Word and Excel.
Qualifications/education required
* Candidates must hold the CTA qualification.
Experience required
* Minimum of 3-4 years' experience working within a tax practice.
Particular aptitudes/skills required
* Good understanding of corporate and personal tax legislation and comfortable in applying technical knowledge in practice
* Able to work without the need for constant supervision
* Able to show initiative in dealing with clients' affairs whilst operating within the firm's prescribed risk management framework
* Can take responsibility for monitoring their own time and budgets
* Experienced and flexible team worker with both colleagues and directors/partners
* Client service focused, responds proactively and positively to the demands of a growing team
* Good organisational skills as will be required to organise own work to ensure that all deadlines are met
* Good computer skills including a sound knowledge of Word & Excel are required
* Excellent communication, both written and verbal
