Job Title: Craft Operative, multi-skilled bricklayer/stone mason
Advertised Salary: £26,904 with salary progression + benefits
Location: Remote, with regular travel across our regional networks required.

We are looking for a Craft Operative (Bricklayer and/or Stone Mason) to join our team. As a Craft Operative, you will play an important role in improving, maintaining, and preserving our wonderful network for our customers. This will involve undertaking the refurbishment or repair of canal infrastructure including locks, bridges, aqueducts, and towpaths while adhering to safety, environmental, and heritage standards.
The post holder will work an annualised hours system, including a rota'd system covering statutory holidays and weekends. Our Craft Operatives look after specific stretches of our regional waterways but may also support work in other areas as required. A valid UK driving license and personal transport are necessary.
Knowledge, Skills/Qualifications & Experience
Operative skills are a minimum requirement. An understanding of and high level of competence in certain disciplines are necessary. You may have a background in the building trade or from a specialist joinery background.
Skills/Qualifications/Experience:
* Apprenticeship or equivalent qualification (or experience) e.g. City & Guilds Level II, NVQ Level II
* Experience handling plant/equipment in group A e.g. chainsaw, hand power tools, fork lift truck.
* Experience of working within relevant discipline e.g. Bricklaying.
* Experience of reading technical drawings.
* Full Valid UK Driving Licence.
Key Responsibilities:
* Carry out maintenance and repairs to the waterway infrastructure.
* Use Bricklayer expertise for timely manufacture & refurbishment.
* Operate a variety of machinery, tools, and equipment in accordance with safety standards.
* Maintain personal and workshop equipment to defined standards.
* Respond to customer queries and emergencies.
* Ensure all equipment is appropriate for the task.
* Assist with the measurement of locks and lock gates.
* Understand and interpret technical drawings.
* Supervise volunteers to ensure resource sustainability.
* Work regionally with flexibility for prioritised works.
