The Role
As an Estimator / Cost Manager, you will be responsible for preparing accurate estimates, managing costs, and ensuring financial control throughout projects. You will work closely with Site Managers, Project Managers, and Clients to develop cost plans, monitor invoices, and report on project profitability.
Key Responsibilities
1. Produce estimates using agreed Client pricing formats and Schedules of Rates.
2. Work closely with Genco Project Managers to develop and agree cost plans with Clients' PMs and Quantity Surveyors.
3. Formulate detailed breakdowns of Labour, Plant, and Materials for each estimate.
4. Obtain prices for specialist trades during the tender stage and ensure timely placement of sub-contractor orders.
5. Track and log received orders, ensuring accurate invoicing and financial reporting.
6. Maintain cost reports to monitor project budgets and mitigate financial risks.
7. Identify and resolve cost-related risks and variations throughout the project lifecycle.
8. Ensure estimates are well-documented, with supporting notes and photographs.
9. Support claims management by resolving cost-related issues and disputes.
10. Liaise with Site Managers to capture and agree on any variations with Clients.
11. Work closely with the Accounts Team to ensure timely and accurate invoicing.
12. Report directly to the Commercial Manager, assisting with all commercial, estimating, and procurement activities.
What We're Looking For
1. Previous experience in estimating, cost management, or quantity surveying.
2. Strong analytical skills with the ability to break down project costs.
3. Knowledge of construction procurement and contract management.
4. Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
5. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and estimating software.
6. Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
