The Opportunity The RoleKey internal relationships:Chief Business Development OfficerClient Relationship Partners (and partners in core client teams)Clients and Sectors TeamGlobal BD team Key external relationships:Three of the firm's most strategically important Private Capital clientsThe clients' Legal, Legal Operations and Business teams Key responsibilities:Work with the Client Relationship Partners (CRPs) to set the strategy for your clients. These will include some of the world's largest Private Capital organisations.Develop and implement robust account plans for nominated clients.Together with the CRPs, develop and maintain relationships with key decision makers at nominated clients.Engage in, and encourage active support for, the firm’s Client Listening Programme. Develop an in-depth understanding of your clients and their businesses, and assist with the sharing of that information within Herbert Smith Freehills.Coach and work with partners and lawyers in the delivery of planned marketing, networking, negotiation and pursuit activities.Facilitate the penetration of client relationships across asset classes, practice groups and global offices.Chair or co-chair regular meetings with the client teams to ensure account plans are being appropriately executed.Understand the objectives of the Herbert Smith Freehills practice groups and regions with which the client requires interaction. Identify and coordinate research with the research and pricing teams.Drive an innovative and profitability led approach to meeting the pricing needs of clients. Key Performance Indicators:Performance of nominated accounts against agreed financial targets.Increased numbers of partners, practice groups and geographies involved in the client relationships, aligned to key opportunities.Strength of external client relationships.Increasing Herbert Smith Freehills share of the external legal spend.Oversight and delivery of account plans for nominated clients.Completion of the agreed number of client reviews annually, and dissemination of relevant feedback.Feedback from key clients, CRP(s), CRM, GHoPs, RHoPs, client teams, client relationship team and the Head of BD, ClientsAdherence to communication and reporting requirements from internal and external clients.Participation in knowledge sharing initiatives within the BD team and across practice groups, using the firm’s designated tools.Efficiently dealing with conflict/issues management relating to the client.Collaborates with BD colleagues and works for collective success. aShares knowledge, insights and suggestions to BD colleagues to help their profile and success. The TeamOur Business development team works alongside our partners and lawyers across our sectors, services and offices to support and develop our relationships with clients, delivering an exceptional service and exploring new avenues through which we can help them meet their business needs. Our brand, marketing and digital team help position us as thought leaders amongst our target markets in the areas we most want to be known for, by creating intuitive and engaging collateral, events and campaigns.As part of the business development team, you will play a hands-on role in contributing to the firm’s success and helping to achieve its objectives. This could be as one of our business development professionals, coaching partners on relationship building, or building our brand as one of our marketing, design or events professionals.If you’re a commercially minded individual with a passion for business development and improving the client experience in a professional services environment, you could be just what we’re looking for. Qualifications, skills and experienceThe ability and drive to develop and maintain client relationships. Strong emotional intelligence.At least 5 years’ experience managing significant clients in a professional services environment.Significant expertise in sales and account relationship management including demonstrable revenue growth over a 2- 4 year period.Proven ability to plan and execute against medium term business development plans/goals.Strong interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to build trusting relationships with the partnership and business services management alike.Political savvy within a large partnership environment.Common sense.
