Job overview
Reporting to the General Manager of the Neuroscience Directorate, this role is expected to provide strong and effective leadership of the clinical neuropsychology service.
The post holder must be an experienced Consultant Clinical Neuropsychologist eligible to appear on the British Psychological Society’s Specialist Register of Clinical Neuropsychologists.
The post holder is responsible for ensuring the provision of safe & high quality clinical neuropsychology services, working with other members of the Division to ensure the effective and efficient delivery of services to clinical users and patients across NBT and in collaboration with Sirona with regard to the ‘one stroke workforce’.
The post holder will liaise with the Clinical Director of Postgraduate Programs in Clinical Neuropsychology at NBT and the University of Bristol in relation to the delivery of education and professional training in Clinical Neuropsychology.
The post holder is a member of the Neuroscience Division Board with responsibility for ensuring services are planned and managed in line with the Trust’s strategic and financial plans.
Is managerially & professionally accountable for the ~ 20 wte staff within the neuropsychology department who deliver both clinical and academic services.
The post holder will be based on the Southmead hospital site.
Main duties of the job
1. Responsible for ensuring that the training, education and supervision requirements of members of the department and students on placement is appropriately planned, managed and provided for within the available resources.
2. The post holder serves as the line manager for staff within the neuropsychology department.
3. Responsible for ensuring the department is financially viable and sustainable through effective budget management, in partnership with the General Manager (who holds budgetary responsibility), and cost efficiency plans.
4. Responsible for ensuring that the neuropsychological service needs are adequately addressed by liaising with colleagues, contributing to planning and service developments in other areas beyond the immediate department, and by ensuring that long term regional NHS plans for reconfiguration adequately take neuropsychological services into account.
5. The post holder must provide a point of focus for management, colleagues, other Trusts or external agencies for matters pertaining to Neuropsychology within North Bristol NHS Trust.

Education/Training/Qualifications
* It is essential that you hold a postgraduate qualification in Clinical Psychology to doctoral level as recognised by the British Psychological Society and/or HCPC.
* Training in clinical psychology to doctoral standard (or its equivalent for those trained before 1996), as accredited by the British Psychological Society.
* HCPC registered Clinical Psychologist.
* Post-qualification training in Clinical Neuropsychology.
* Member of the Specialist Register of Clinical Neuropsychology.
* Post-qualification training in supervision, research or therapeutic practice.
Work Experience
* Experience of working with patients who have a diagnosis of a functional neurological disorder.
* Significant supervised clinical practice including clinical neuropsychological assessment/rehabilitation of adults.
* Experience in assessment of patients with neurological conditions.
* Experience in delivering therapeutic interventions to patients with neurological conditions.
* Experience of supervision of Assistant Psychologists or Trainee Psychologists.
* Experience in a range of psychological assessment and intervention strategies and the ability to integrate complex data from a variety of sources.
* Experience in effective communication, oral and in written, of complex, technical and clinically sensitive information to a range of recipients (e.g. patients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside of the NHS).
* Experience in providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups.
* Experience of working with people with acquired and degenerative neurological conditions.
* Experience of working with a variety of client groups, and with a variety of presenting problems including complex, highly emotive, and distressing problems such as verbal abuse and the threat of physical violence.
* Experience of teaching and training others using a variety of complex materials suitable for multimedia presentations to a variety of audiences within public, professional and academic settings.
* Experience of working within a multicultural framework.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
* Capability to deliver individual neuropsychological assessment.
* Experience with evidence-based psychological treatments (e.g, cognitive behavioural therapy, cognitive remediation and/or anger management).
* Able to use clinical judgement to assess the risk for patients presenting with anger, depression, suicidal ideation/intent and other psychological vulnerabilities.
* Experience working with the families and carers of people with brain injuries and/or neurological conditions.
* Advanced analytical and judgemental skills.
* General psychological clinical skills.
* The capacity to summarise and interpret highly complex and sensitive data and write concise, accurate and readily understood reports that communicate the findings of the neuropsychological assessment to treating clinicians.
* Skills in communicating sensitive and distressing information.
* Ability to respond urgently and flexibly to clinical demands for assessment.
* Knowledge of relevant Government guidelines, NSFs and NICE guidelines pertinent to the delivery, planning, development and prioritising of neuropsychological services.
* Ability to manage and effectively prioritise clinical caseload.
* Ability to provide feedback to patients and referring agents as is appropriate and according to clinical judgement.
* Ability to ensure adequate records are maintained and managed.
* Ability to prepare and deliver lectures and presentations to a range of audiences including University students, medical colleagues, peers and the public.
