Wood is recruiting for a Principal Electrical Engineer to Lead the Electrical discipline within our Electrical, Control and Instrumentation (EC&I) Systems Integration (SI), Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) business, that sits within our Digital Consulting business Unit. This is a hybrid role which can be based out of any of the following UK offices: Aberdeen, Glasgow, Northampton, Staines, or Reading. Please note applicants must be able to pass HMG Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) check. The Role Reporting into the E,C&I Head of discipline, this is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Electrical Engineer to drive the performance and ensure best practise standards across the E,C&I Engineering function. The principal engineer will support with growing a team of electrical engineers both in the UK and in our Indian engineering team, who will provide electrical engineering specialisms to a variety of different projects across the Energy and Materials sectors. The phases range from small pre-feed studies to major EPCM projects. Currently many of projects work with Variable Speed Drives (VSD) to working knowledge of this would be advantageous. You will be responsible for the Electrical resources across all of the SI EMEA, ensuring projects have the correct level of support, and managing the recruitment, retention and development of the team. You will also be the technical authority for Electrical within SI EMEA and expected to review final outputs on designs and provide Principal / Lead support to individual projects as required. Due to the nature of the Electrical requirements and the geographical split of the team you will be required to travel across the UK to Client Sites and Wood offices on occasion. Oversee Design, development, and implementation of HV/LV electrical systems and VSD applications. Conduct detailed electrical system analysis and troubleshooting if required. Conduct condition surveys of brownfield sites. Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulations, and safety protocols. Collaborate with multi discipline teams to complete design and construction. Provide technical support and training to junior engineers and technicians. Oversee preparations and review of technical documentation, including schematics, specifications, and reports. Perform risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies Qualifications What makes you remarkable? Expected: ISCED Level 6 /Bachelors (minimum) or Level 7 /Masters (preferred) degree in Electrical engineering discipline or equivalent professional experience Electrical and Controls Hardware design Mainly LV( Strong knowledge of electrical systems, VSD and UPS technology Minimum of 15 years of experience in HV/LV electrical engineering including VSD and UPS applications. Proven track record of leading and managing engineering Electrical projects. Previous experience in supervising a team of discipline engineers at all levels Excellent problem solving and analytical skills. Proficiency in electrical design software and tools. Effective communication and leadership skills. Ability to work independently and as part of multi disciplined team. Extensive broad and deep experience of engineering delivery across automation and controls projects in one or more relevant industry sectors Expert level experience and understanding of discipline engineering tools and processes Knowledge and understanding of Industry standards Ability to work to client specifications Stay updated with the latest advancements in electrical engineering, in particular UPS and VSD technology. Desirable Chartership with relevant professional body / Professional Engineer License or equivalent A network of contacts across Wood is preferred Previous experience of gas transmission systems and/or the G35 review process not essential but preferred.
