Our Applied Science practice leverages a unique combination of technologies and expertise to engineer practical solutions to problems of national and international importance. We apply expertise in solid and fluid dynamics, materials science, acoustics, risk assessments, and computational simulation methods to solve complex problems. We perform research, mathematical modeling, software development, and design to manage risks to life safety in military platforms and installations, ships and submarines, critical infrastructure, tall buildings, public facilities, industrial and petrochemical plants, and automotive and airborne vehicles. Military, government, corporate, and academic clients value the validation of Applied Science’s software and the critical insights gained from correlating analysis with testing.
The Role
We have an opportunity for an Associate to join our Applied Science practice. In this role you will act as the principal designer providing specialist technical support to clients across a variety of sectors including commercial, energy, entertainment, sports and infrastructure projects in the UK and overseas.
The position will play a pivotal role in high-profile projects, ensuring adherence to the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 (CDM 2015) and maintaining the highest standards of health and safety across the full lifecycle, from the development of new facilities to the safe operation and ultimate decommissioning of existing facilities. Broad familiarity with the Building Regulations will be highly advantageous.
The position will give you the opportunity to use your skills, experience, and judgement to enhance and improve the performance of engineering systems and processes for client companies, while also mentoring others and leading projects across a range of work streams. You will be required to attend client meetings to present results and to help prepare project proposals as part of the office business development activity.
Responsibilities
* Advising clients on CDM regulations and health and safety.
* Assisting project teams with design and regulatory matters.
* Conducting health and safety audits and inspections.
* Developing and managing pre-construction information.
* Conducting design risk assessments and reviewing construction phase plans.
* Delivering training and workshops on CDM and health and safety.
Requirements
* Degree (Master’s or PhD preferred) in a relevant engineering discipline.
* NEBOSH Construction General Certificate / Construction qualification or equivalent.
* Member of IOSH and APS preferred.
* 6 to 12 years of experience gained within a similar position, demonstrating strong construction background and engineering design knowledge.
* Experience of Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 (CDM 2015).
* In-depth understanding of the Building Regulations and the Building Safety Act.
* Experience and expertise to compile and review significant hazard and risk registers, design risk management, and pre-construction information packs.
* The successful candidate will need to be able to obtain UK security clearance.
