There are 2 permanent, full-time positions of 37 hours per week, with a rotational shift pattern.

This post is an exciting opportunity to be part of the team at the Scottish National Burns Unit based in the Burns and Plastic Surgery Unit at Glasgow Royal Infirmary. The unit receives patients from across Scotland that require specialist Burns care, including big burn injury, complex cases, rehabilitation, and those who require specialist care and treatments. The unit works closely with ITU and Theatres to deliver burn care which promotes healing function and the best possible outcomes for our patients.
The unit also works closely with Glasgow University to deliver post-graduate courses on Burns and Plastics for those keen to develop their knowledge of the specialty. We deliver lectures at Glasgow Caledonian for Nursing Students and have been involved in teaching nationally. We are part of a Managed Clinical Network for Burn injury, and Scottish multidisciplinary team meetings are held weekly. We hold a local multidisciplinary team meeting weekly. Nurses are encouraged to attend educational events across the country, and we are dedicated to supporting education and professional development.
Clinical Responsibilities
* To assess patient needs, plan, implement, and evaluate a programme of care which is evidence-based, utilising all available resources while considering the lifestyle, gender, and cultural background of patients, ensuring involvement with the patient, family, carers, and significant others.
* Maintain patient records in line with NMC guidelines for records and record keeping.
Professional Responsibilities
* Practice within the legal & ethical framework established by the Nursing Midwifery Council (NMC) and National Legislation to ensure patient interests and well-being are met.
* Work within the National Health Service (NHS), NHS Greater Glasgow and Health & Safety Executive (HSE) Legislation, Policy, Guidelines, and Procedures.
* Empower patients to take responsibility for their health, well-being, and future lifestyle by practising in an open, transparent, and inclusive manner, ensuring patients have the relevant information to participate in decisions about their care.
Education and Research/Audit Responsibilities
* Contribute to the provision of an appropriate learning environment in line with NES Quality Placement Standards.
* Contribute/complete clinical appraisal of pre-registration nurses.
* Participate in performance appraisal in line with policy.
* Demonstrate own professional development.
* Support the implementation of research and clinical audit where appropriate.
Organisational/Managerial Responsibilities
* Organise own time and that of junior staff and learners.
* Ensure effective day-to-day management of other resources including stores, supplies, pharmacy, and maintenance of equipment.
* Plan, allocate, and supervise the work of a team.
* In conjunction with the Laser Manager/Deputy, ensure that the nursing resource is utilised efficiently and effectively by managing duty roster/sickness absence and the use of additional hours (i.e., bank agency).
* Contribute to the recruitment and selection process.
