SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES The GP Assistant will support the doctors by: Adding information to the patient record using appropriate clinical coding. Contacting patients to obtain information, share information and book appointments. Actioning computer tasks appropriately and in a timely manner. Liaising with external organisations to obtain information. Preparing and sending referrals, via the e-referral system. Completing forms as much as possible, for scrutiny and signature by doctors. Generating letters and electronic messages on behalf of GPs. Requesting pathology on the ICE system. The GP Assistant will also carry out the following clinical tasks when asked to do so by a GP: Dip a urine sample Take a blood pressure Do an ECG Take a blood sample PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT The GP Assistant will complete training on all areas within the Health Education England General Practice Assistant Competency Framework To achieve this they will: Undertake training on a variety of IT systems. Develop a working knowledge of all admin processes within the practices. Develop and maintain basic clinical skills. Attend external training courses.
