Ford is investing £355m into the Halewood site to produce electric power units and it will be the first site to manufacture EV components in Europe, commencing in 2024 with a capacity of 420,000 units. As the Electrical Controls Engineer, you will be part of the core engineering team and be responsible for all aspects of machinery controls, building infrastructure controls and energy supply facilities. You will be expected to manage projects from a minimal budget expenditure up to £1,000,000 and deliver them safely, at optimal cost, on time and aligned with strict engineering standards. You will work with a varied range of teams including other engineers, management, production, and maintenance personnel to deliver projects and services which support an advanced automotive manufacturing environment transforming into a world leader in electric vehicle powertrains. Qualifications and Experience required by the Electrical Controls Engineer The candidate should be qualified Degree with an Electronics Engineering discipline and with experience and qualifications in Electrical and Electronics disciplines preferred. Candidates not meeting this criterion but with the relevant experience will be considered on an exception basis only. Successful applicants will be required to study for a degree, if required. The candidate should demonstrate highly effective project management skills from specification, vendor selection to project delivery and implementation. Have worked in a manufacturing or similar environment. General computer literacy and familiar with Excel, Word or equivalent and project management software (e.g. Project) Be familiar with developing engineering specifications taking into account standard Ford requirements and external standards and legal requirements A ‘can do’ attitude is essential together with the ability to work in a challenging environment and overcome complex problems to meet demanding deadlines Analytical mindset to develop engineering solutions Excellent people and communication skills Highly motivated and self-driven Experience of working with external agencies (e.g. Planning, Utilities) PLC experience, including Siemens Step-7 and TIA portal is essential Understanding of machine hardware and controls, including the following:- ABB, Fanuc, Kuka and UR robotics. Kistler and Promess pressing systems. Bosch and Atlas Copco fastening systems. IFM, Keyence, Henkel and Cognex vision systems. Machine sign off experience, pre-acceptance and final acceptance audits at machine tool vendors and in-house preparations of acceptance reports and implementation of findings at vendors including the understanding of machine standards for production environments, CE and UKCA marking, Norms, BS and EN standards Support hardware discussions and agreements with OEM's. Verification of software station by station for bespoke equipment. Vendor sign off to include PLC programmes, HMI screens Establish and distribute program related standards Development and implementation of controls refurbishment activities for available machinery and equipment AutoCAD electrical and Eplan conversant, creation and responsibility for approving changes to electrical drawings modifications of drawings Provide cost studies for new projects and running production in respect of utility / energy supply and controls topics, like electric distribution systems (bus bar system), lightning, etc. Planning and procuring of energy supply systems HV and LV electrical substation knowledge, including infrastructure, switching and isolation HVAC control and maintenance experience, including BMS software (Tridium) and hardware (Niagara) First line support for BMS, Montage (reporting system), particularly energy management and metering Will be expected to be an Authorised Person (AP) for HV and LV systems. Manufacturing Production Network (MPN) experience and understanding of machine interfaces with networks Condition Based Monitoring (CBM) experience and the understanding and fundamentals of the systems Key Responsibilities (including but not limited to): To be role model for Ford behaviours and requirements.
