Your new role Based within the Global Outdoor Operations function, the Technical Director - Product will lead a high-performing team focused on the development and delivery of products used for advertising, supporting a £200m capital transformation program across the UK Outdoor business. This role is pivotal in ensuring the continued evolution of outdoor advertising solutions, and will play a key role in shaping the company’s future product offerings. The Technical Director will be responsible for developing a comprehensive product roadmap for the next five years. This includes leading procurement and supplier management for product development, prototyping, production, and ensuring on-time delivery according to specifications. Post-delivery, the role will also collaborate with technology and engineering functions to ensure products perform to specification, and that maintenance, spares, and warranties are effectively managed. A key aspect of the role will be integrating lessons learned into continuous improvement and future product development. The position reports directly to the Director of Transformation and Operations Strategy, with key stakeholders including the Global Outdoor executive team, Chief Operating Officer, and various teams in Partnerships, Commercial, Finance, and Legal. Additionally, the role requires day-to-day collaboration with Transformation and Programme Delivery teams, Technical Engineering, Technology & Infrastructure, Delivery, HSEQ teams, as well as external partners in the product supply chain and integrators, particularly in the audio-visual sector, with a focus on LCD and LED display solutions for advertising. Occasional UK and international travel may be required.\ Key Responsibilities Develop and Maintain Product Portfolio : Create and manage a product development roadmap, ensuring it aligns with the strategic objectives of the business. Supplier Management : Oversee supplier performance across product development, prototyping, manufacturing, and delivery, ensuring all timelines and quality standards are met. Knowledge Library : Build and maintain an up-to-date knowledge library of products used in outdoor advertising, both in the UK and overseas, and keep stakeholders informed of key updates and industry developments. Stay abreast of competitor activity in this space. Supply Chain Expertise : Cultivate a strong network of supply chain contacts, particularly within the LED and LCD display sectors. Have a deep understanding of the supply chains for components, particularly in key manufacturing regions such as China, Korea, and Taiwan. Technical Product Specifications : Take ownership of product specifications for advertising products in collaboration with the Engineering and Technology teams. Product Design Language : Define and refine the design language for global advertising displays in partnership with the Engineering teams. Representation at Industry Forums : Represent the company at key industry forums and events to stay at the forefront of technological innovations. Innovation and Development : Identify and evaluate emerging technological opportunities that could impact outdoor advertising, and provide updates to stakeholders for potential investment or trial purposes. Digital Strategy : Develop a digital product strategy addressing the convergence of LCD and LED technology, ensuring that products are designed with this future shift in mind. Sustainability : Ensure sustainability is an integral part of the product development and procurement process. Business and Executive Reporting : Prepare and present business and executive reports, ensuring clear communication of progress and key issues. Communication and Marketing Materials : Lead the communication efforts for outdoor advertising products and develop relevant materials to support commercial and marketing teams. What Success Looks Like In the first few months, you will: Gain a comprehensive understanding of the current state of product solutions and their applications in the UK outdoor advertising market. Develop a 12-month roadmap for product priorities and innovations. Establish a strong network with key suppliers relevant to the outdoor advertising transformation and investment plans. Build strong relationships with key internal stakeholders. Identify key risks and issues and begin managing them effectively. Take full responsibility for product specifications and delivery plans. What You’ll Need A degree in product engineering, electronics, mechanical engineering, or a related subject. 5 years of experience in product-related roles, with specific involvement in AV, LED, and LCD technology. Exceptional organizational and presentation skills, along with strong communication methods. Experience in monitoring and managing product performance and KPIs (e.g., MTTR, MTBF). End-to-end experience managing the product lifecycle, from concept and feasibility through to delivery and performance monitoring. Expertise in supply chain management, including working with overseas OEMs and integrators. Proficiency with relevant software tools and systems used in product development. Strong project and portfolio management skills. In-depth knowledge of product market intelligence and competitor activity. Experience working in partnership with engineering and technology departments. 3 years of experience working in major capital or operational business programmes, ideally within the PMO environment. Experience managing small product teams and associated budgets. Quality assurance experience, with a focus on commercial thinking and innovative problem-solving. Familiarity with Lean, Six Sigma, and production management methodologies, including preventative maintenance knowledge. Strong analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills. Ability to engage stakeholders at all levels, including board-level executives.
