An excellent opportunity has arisen for a term temporary position for our client, a well-established Contractor for a Site Manager to oversee a project in Burnham on Crouch, Southend on Sea.
We are looking for an experienced Site Manager with a proven track record of managing agricultural builds and in particular large poultry sheds. You will be required to co-ordinate trades, direct labour and materials, as well as liaising with suppliers to ensure that the onsite construction team is fully resourced. You will also be responsible for the successful and safe delivery of the exceptionally high-quality dwellings associated with our client on what is the major refurbishment of 5 poultry sheds.
We are seeking an experienced Site Manager to start on site on or around 17th / 25th February for a project duration of approximately 5 months.
The Site Manager is required to manage and oversee the day-to-day running of projects from the start through to completion, ensuring that work is completed on time, safely, within its budget and to a high standard. They will be the first point of contact for members of the public, clients, site managers and sub-contractors for as long as the contract lasts.
They will assist the contracts manager in the preparation of the construction programme of works and monitoring progress against the programme. They will attend regular design coordination meetings and sub-contractor coordination meetings, as well as regular progress meetings and support the contracts manager in delivering the progress report.
The candidate will liaise with the contracts manager regarding the sub-contractor's progress of fully integrated works to allow the manager to value the works and sign off invoices. They will be responsible for the setting to work of all labour and sub-contractors and will work with the assistant contracts managers and contracts managers to call off materials according to the procurement schedules and construction programme.
The candidate will check all deliveries for damage or shortages and report this immediately to the assistant contracts manager. The site manager will collate all delivery and advice notes and return them to the regional office by 7:30 am on a Monday morning.
The candidate will monitor the quality of workmanship on site. Non-compliant and poor workmanship is to be raised with the tradesman for rectification. If the issues are not rectified, the site manager should contact the sub-contractor's management and request their inspection of the problem on site and insist that it is rectified. The contracts manager is to be made aware of such issues. If the site manager cannot get action, then the problem will be escalated to the contracts manager.
Health and safety issues will be a top priority in this role. It will be the candidate's responsibility to discharge health and safety obligations on site, summarised as follows:
1. Ensure all operatives and visitors receive a site induction.
2. Ensure that all operatives present proof of competency.
3. Ensure that all works have been risk assessed and that safe systems of work are in place.
4. Ensure that all operatives have read and understood the risk assessments and method statements applicable to their works and have the required PPE.
5. Ensure and maintain safe places of work.
6. Ensure that the welfare accommodation is kept clean and well stocked with consumables.
7. Issue and manage permits.
8. Report any accidents and near misses.
9. Discipline anyone found to be working unsafely or tampering with anything provided in the interests of health and safety.
10. Ensure plant and equipment is inspected and safe for use.
11. Carry out mandatory inspections of plant, lifting equipment, scaffold and excavations.
12. Ensure site boundaries are kept secure and are inspected in accordance with CDM 2015.
13. Ensure first aid kits are kept on site and well stocked at all times.
14. Robustly implement the requirements of the health and safety plan.
15. Pay due regard to fire prevention on construction sites and ensure that fire stations are placed in accordance with the fire risk assessment and kept in good order.
16. Draw up and implement traffic management plans.
17. Ensure that collective safety measures are put in place and kept in good order.
18. Make asbestos registers and reports readily available on site.
19. In some cases, carry out temporary works coordination.
20. In some cases, plan and manage crane lifts as the appointed person.
21. Ensure all services are identified and protected as necessary.
