To work as part of a team under the supervision of the Responsible Pharmacist to ensure the safe, accurate and timely supply of prescribed medication to patients. To work in conjunction with the Responsible Pharmacist, to provide accurate final checking and technical assistance in the supply of medicines.
Responsibilities:
1. To be working towards or have completed an accredited Dispensing training course under the guidance of the Superintendent Pharmacist.
2. To select, label and dispense pharmaceutical products in accordance with a prescription by following Standard Operating Procedures and complying with all legal requirements.
3. To carry out final checking of dispensed items according to the accuracy checking Standard Operating Procedures (if accredited).
4. To ensure the safe and correct transfer of dispensed items to patients following Standard Operating Procedures and complying with all legal requirements.
5. To accurately maintain Patient Medication Records to ensure patient safety and in accordance with data protection requirements.
6. To identify medicine related problems or queries, bring these to the attention of the Pharmacist and follow through until resolved.
7. To answer queries on the supply and availability of medicines.
8. To receive stock in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures.
9. To ensure the safe and appropriate storage of medicines.
10. To assist with stock control and the maintenance of reasonable stock levels within the pharmacy environment.
11. To liaise with other healthcare professionals to assist in the continuity of patient care.
12. To maintain an up-to-date knowledge of medicines and minor ailments by reading journals, product information and training resources.
13. To maintain an up-to-date knowledge of pharmaceutical matters by complying with professional Continuing Professional Development requirements.
14. To maintain and analyse a record/portfolio of errors detected in preparation for re-accreditation every two years.
15. To assist in providing pharmaceutical care by carrying out any reasonable duties as determined by needs of the business.
16. Understand and comply with job relevant Companies Practice Standards at all times.
17. Understand the Companies standard operating procedures and attend training sessions as appropriate.
