Deputy Manager
Job Title: Deputy Manager - Children's Home
Responsible to: Registered Home Manager
Location: Willow Tree House - Winsford
Salary & Package: Over GBP 38,170 with sleeps. 165 hours per month @ basic salary of GBP 30,790 per year, 10 sleep ins (paid separate @ GBP 60 per sleep) paid in addition to basic. With bonuses circa GBP 40,000.
Bonus Scheme: Two bonus schemes available: quarterly performance based & end of year based on company financial performance.
Shift Pattern: In line with organisational requirements, shifts of 1 day on / 2 days off includes 10 sleep ins per month (paid separate @ GBP 60 per sleep).
Purpose:
* To provide leadership and support to the staff team to ensure the highest quality of care is delivered to the children and young people as part of Acorns to Oaks Children’s care and support.
* Act as a leader, role model and coordinator of shifts, fully deputising for the Registered Home Manager in their absence.
* To lead the development of the child/young person’s Care Plan ensuring its delivery daily and ensuring that all the basic physical needs of the children and young people are met.
* To provide guidance to colleagues, communicating goals, objectives, and practice to all staff team to support development.
* To actively monitor and provide feedback to individuals.
* To be alert to signs of distress, neglect, or abuse, ensuring that the children and young people are monitored and protected.
* To know, understand and role model Acorns to Oaks cultural and behavioural expectations.
* Along with the Registered Manager, facilitate regular team meetings and planning meetings with the staff team.
* Along with the Registered Manager, be responsible for the day-to-day monitoring of health and safety amongst the staff team.
Key Activities:
* To act in a manner that is always befitting of Acorns to Oaks as provider of children’s services and in line with the Company values.
* To comply in-line with legislation and quality standards at all times.
* To apply a comprehensive understanding of Acorns to Oaks policies and procedures as an employee and all aspects of working practices.
* To understand and apply safeguarding practices and processes, maintaining vigilance when supervising children and young people in line with risk assessments.
* To communicate effectively with the staff team about regulatory requirements to support the homes delivery of high-quality care.
* To utilise the organisations whistle blowing policy to ensure that poor practice, negligence and dishonesty is dealt with appropriately.
* To be accountable for the monitoring of all paperwork, actively monitoring quality and providing frequent feedback to staff in this regard.
* To contribute to the co-ordination of training for staff and positively reinforce learning regarding training.
* To contribute actively to the strategic developments of all aspects of the home, including a caring home environment.
* Provide coordination and leadership to ensure all the basic physical needs of the child/young person are met and that accurate records are kept.
* Be mindful of race, culture, language, and religion, to ensure that every child/young person is treated fairly and as an individual entitled to respect and dignity.
* Be sensitive to the needs of individual children and young people and provide support and comfort to young people under stress.
* Develop and implement daily shift planners and weekly planners for children and young people.
* To take the lead and work with internal and external services and professionals to ensure continuity of care for children and young people.
* To take the lead in the creation and maintenance of a therapeutic homely environment.
* To ensure own and others continuing vigilance when supervising young people in line with risk assessments.
* Be accountable to the homes petty cash and ensure financial systems and processes are followed correctly.
* To coordinate and take a lead in carrying out tasks and maintain all relevant records pertaining to Health & Safety.
* Where requested carry out quality assurance processes.
* To actively monitor working practices of the home and provide feedback to staff regarding quality and standards.
* To take the lead in co-ordinating the homes rota to effectively manage training commitments and annual leave responsibilities.
* Participate in the on-call rota as required.
* To facilitate effective handovers, actively monitoring and providing feedback to staff and line Registered Manager.
* To act as a leader amongst the staff team, providing support to help meet agreed objectives and goals.
* To communicate positively and constructively about the children and young people, colleagues, and organisation at all times.
* Make use of regular supervisions and consistently demonstrate the skills to engage in personal reflection.
* Utilise written communication effectively to share significant information with colleagues and other relevant professionals.
* To act with initiative, accountability, and responsibility at all times.
* To recognise one’s own strengths and weaknesses, and those of colleagues.
* To contribute to other projects, initiatives and recruitment processes in the wider organisation as required.
* Lead and participate in supervision as required.
* To be aware of policies and procedures and act according to them.
* Undertake any other reasonable duties as may be required to fulfil your role.
The key activities relevant to this role do not form an inclusive list of expected duties. Post holders are expected to complete all activities related to the achievement of these objectives along with any other activities deemed appropriate for the seniority of this position as directed by senior managers.
Qualifications:
* Proven management and supervisory experience in a care home setting
* Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and guide staff
* Experience in Children's Residential Settings
* Knowledge of care plans and medication administration
* Familiarity with PACE approach
* Excellent communication skills to effectively interact with young people and families
* Level 4/5 qualification around children's residential
* Driver's Licence required and willing to drive
