Band 4 Nursing Associates work closely with people who use our services and play an important contribution in how people experience our services. Band 4 Nursing Associates are expected to:
1. Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and be accountable to the ADHD Specialist clinicians and service manager
2. Be accountable as professionals registered with the NMC and work to the Code for Nurses, Midwives and Nursing Associates
3. Analysis of rating scales

As a Nursing Associate you may be expected to practice any of the skills listed in the NMC Standards of Proficiency skills annexes, or to be responsible for the care delivered to a number of service users; however, you will always be supervised by a registered nurse and receive support from the wider multi-disciplinary team. As a Nursing Associate you will contribute to the provision of safe and high-quality services by:
1. Working to the standards set out in the NMC Code for Nurses, Midwives and Nursing Associates
2. Recognising issues relating to safeguarding vulnerable children and adults and report any problems or raise concerns to the appropriate registered care professionals (including raising a safeguarding alert)
3. Escalating safety concerns and acting as effective advocates for those who use our services

Provide and monitor care:
Nursing Associates have a set of skills which enables you to provide and monitor care across most health and social care settings. You will be expected to:
1. Develop understanding of all elements of the nursing process within the ADHD service and be able to assist the registered mental health nurses in the ongoing assessment, planning, management, and evaluation of care
2. Assist in the delivery of complex care as prescribed by the registered mental health nurse
3. Analysis of rating scales and developmental and early education history
4. Work with patients and registered nurses to develop and implement care plans within the scope of your competence
5. Provide skilled, evidence-based care which adheres to agreed policies and procedures
6. Take responsibility for monitoring and evaluating care
7. Ensure the privacy, dignity, and safety of individuals is maintained at all times
8. Demonstrate the ability to recognise changing priorities, seeking advice and guidance from the registered nurse or other registered care professionals as appropriate
9. Report back and share information with the registered mental health nurses on the condition, behaviour, activity, and responses of individuals
10. Recognise deterioration in patients and escalate concerns appropriately
11. Demonstrate good understanding of principles of consent and ensure valid consent is obtained prior to undertaking nursing and care procedures
12. Act as a patient advocate within the multi-disciplinary team

As a Nursing Associate you will be registered with the NMC and expected to work to the Code of Conduct for Nurses, Midwives and Nursing Associates by:
1. Taking responsibility for maintaining your registration and revalidation as required by the NMC
2. Participating in supervision and annual appraisals which will help you to reflect on your work, understand your objectives, and monitor your progress towards achieving them
3. Supporting others in the multi-disciplinary team
4. Using continuing professional development and personal development plans to help you maintain the skill set you developed as a trainee nursing associate
Service specific responsibilities:
1. To undertake and interpret clinical observations contributing to a patient's initial ADHD assessment including the review of self-report measures; rating scales; direct and indirect structured observations
2. Conducting semi-structured interviews with clients, family members, and others involved in the client's care under the direction of the RMN
3. Develop an understanding of caring for individuals with conditions relevant to the scope of service
4. Accurately record health assessments
5. Support patients with all aspects of care
6. Identify and record physical health care needs within care plans
7. Demonstrate good understanding of the Mental Capacity Act and apply principles to everyday practice seeking advice/guidance from the Registered Nurse or registered care professional as required.
8. To work to deliver therapeutic observation and actively deliver group sessions
