Job summary
An excitingopportunity has arisen within Speciality Medicine for an enthusiastic Band 6 nurse, with an interest in education to become a Practice Development Nurse to support nurses within C5 Acute Medical and Endocrine Ward at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton. This post a 5 months fixed term role at hours per week, flexible working, as this is necessary to meet the educational requirements of nurses within the Division. The role, requires an excellent, credible, clinical role model, to support the ward leader and practice nurse educator for the division in working alongside nurses within clinical practice, inspire and motivate new and existing staff in delivering compassionate care that ensures patient safety and dignity, with a focus on recruitment and retention of nurses.

Main duties of the job
The successful candidate should be dynamic and passionate about education and the professional development of nurses. The individual will possess initiative, to work autonomously on occasions and be willing to learn how to organise and assist in developing a structured programme of teaching to ensure delivery of nursing care to the highest standard.

Job responsibilities
One of the key priorities of this post, is ensuring that all new nurses joining our ward areas receive a robust induction/orientation programme and support within their supernumerary period. Another priority is to maintain and update education databases and competency Trust works closely with the University of Brighton, in providing post registration pathway modules, and the Nurse educator together with the practice development nurse, will be a key resource for nurses involved in this process.

Qualifications and Experience
Essential
1. Registered Nurse (Nursing and Midwifery Council, UK)
2. Evidence of professional development through short courses, academic study at a minimum of post-registration level
3. Mentorship module / or similar/ NMC Supervisor/Assessor
4. Good presentation skills to large groups.
5. Ability to engage and motivate team to continuously improve
6. Able to prioritise & manage own work without any direct supervision, excellent organisational skills.
7. Computer literate, experience of utilising IT software to present information
8. Ability to undertake frequent physical work in relation to patient care
Desirable
9. Post Graduate Certificate in Health & Social care Education (PGCHSCE) or willing to work towards one
10. Leadership qualification
11. Module in Diabetes or Care of the Acutely Ill Adult
12. Ability to present ideas with clarity and in a persuasive and influential style
13. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
14. Excellent training experience using a variety of teaching and learning techniques
