This is a new role which has been established to support the Rheumatology team based at Orpington Hospital. The post holder will work with the Principal Pharmacist for Planned Medicine and Rheumatology MDT to establish outpatient clinics and streamline processes for initiating and maintaining patients on biologics/ targeted-synthetic small molecules. Although previous experience of working in this setting and/or with Rheumatology patients is desirable, it is not essential as training will be provided during the induction period and on an ongoing basis.
The successful candidate will provide pharmacist-led clinics, lead a Virtual Biologics Clinic for patients initiating new therapies and ensure that Medicines Optimisation opportunities are realised. The use of advanced therapies such as biologics and JAK inhibitors are rapidly expanding, and this post will offer the opportunity to gain significant experience in service development to ensure that these therapies are prescribed in a safe and cost-effective manner. The post holder will play an active role in developing & monitoring treatment pathways with colleagues across South East London, offering an excellent opportunity for networking and sharing experiences.
The role is based within the Rheumatology department at Orpington Hospital, with the need to attend our Denmark Hill site.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will work as part of a dedicated pharmacy team to lead, provide and develop specialist clinical pharmacy services to Rheumatology. The main responsibilities of the post holder will be:
* Act as a specialist role model and an expert in the medical management within Rheumatology.
* Lead and manage clinical pharmacy services in Rheumatology in conjunction with the Principal Pharmacist.
* Participate regularly in outpatient clinics to deliver and promote high quality, cost-effective and patient-focused pharmaceutical care.
* Actively participate in multidisciplinary ward rounds, delivering and promoting high quality, cost-effective, patient-focused pharmaceutical care.
* Provide patient and carer education.
* Promote safe drug use within the Rheumatology specialty.
* Development, implementation and audit of local guidelines.
* Regular financial reporting, drug usage and expenditure forecasting, and drug budget management.
* To participate in practice and clinical research and audit.
Person Specification
* MPharm (Masters Degree)
* Registered Pharmacist (1 year competency assessed and examined professional registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council)
* Postgraduate Diploma in Pharmacy Practice or Equivalent
* Experience of working with senior healthcare professionals outside of pharmacy
* Experience of protocol/ guideline development
* Experience of multi-disciplinary team working
* Experience of supporting the development and implementation of policies to control drug expenditure and ensure cost-effective prescribing.
* Evidence of participating in audit and/ or practice research to investigate and where appropriate improve the quality of service.
* Experience of supporting the development of ward and clinical pharmacy services in order to advance the safe, clinically effective and cost effective use of drugs to patients.
* Demonstrates they have experience of providing highly specialised and complex evidence-based clinical advice and information using expert knowledge and experience to pharmacy, nursing, medical and other healthcare professionals on the care and treatment of patients, inside and outside of the Trust.

Salary: £56,388 to £62,785 a year, including HCA.
