Learning Support Assistant – ASC Specialism
A well-established Independent School catering to students with complex Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) is seeking a dedicated and skilled Learning Support Assistant (LSA) with expertise in Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC). This role will involve working closely with students to support their academic and social development, providing essential guidance and individualized strategies. The position will initially be through Teaching Personnel, with the opportunity to transition to a permanent contract with the school after a successful probationary period.
Position Overview:
* Role: Learning Support Assistant – ASC Specialist
* School Type: Independent SEN School (Complex SEND)
* Location: Hemel Hempstead - HP3 area.
* Contract Type: Temporary via Teaching Personnel, with potential for permanent employment
* Working Hours: Full time, during term time only (8:30am - 3:30pm)
* Start Date: ASAP or after suitable notice period.
Key Responsibilities:
* Provide focused 1:1 and small-group support to students with ASC, assisting with tailored learning and social engagement strategies
* Provide support with physical interventions, including personal care, whilst remaining the dignity of the students with complex needs.
* Implement and adapt learning resources to meet individual needs, promoting active and effective participation in classroom activities
* Work collaboratively with classroom teachers, SEN staff, and other support personnel to ensure the needs of students with ASC are fully supported
* Support the development of student independence, communication skills, and positive behavioral strategies
* Engage actively in professional development opportunities, including ongoing training in ASC and complex SEND support
Qualifications and Experience:
* Previous experience supporting SEN children or adults, school-aged students with ASC or complex SEND, ideally within an educational setting or health care setting
* Knowledge of effective strategies for engaging students with ASC, including communication and social skills development
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a calm, patient, and supportive approach
* Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team, contributing to a positive and inclusive school environment
* Qualifications or training in SEND education or ASC support are highly desirable
