Job Title: Infrastructure Engineer (VMware) Location: MOD Corsham (3-4 days on-site) Contract Type: Contract Outside IR35 Salary: £450-470 a day Outside Security Clearance: SC required, DV beneficial or willingness to be processed through a DV clearance The Opportunity: Our client is a leader in digital and software services, supporting critical UK defence and government projects. This role offers the chance to work on advanced cloud hosting platforms for the Royal Navy, playing a key part in securing and optimising mission-critical infrastructure. The Role: As an Infrastructure Engineer, you will work as part of a highly skilled team managing multi-tenant private cloud environments. You will: Design, deploy, and manage software-defined networking (SDN) and VMware NSX-T. Configure and maintain Linux (Ubuntu preferred) and Windows OS environments, including Active Directory. Implement security best practices, system hardening (CIS benchmarks), and vulnerability management using Nessus. Support incident response and provide third-line technical support. Develop and update system documentation to support onboarding and service transitions. The Person: You should have experience in cloud infrastructure within defence, MOD, or government environments. Essential skills include: VMware Cloud Foundation Core (vSphere, vCenter, vSAN, NSX-T). Experience with hyper-converged infrastructure (preferably Dell vXrail). Security hardening, compliance, and vulnerability scanning. Understanding of ITIL service management. Strong problem-solving and interpersonal skills to work directly with customers and stakeholders. Desirable Skills: VMware Aria Suite (Automation, Operations, Logs, Skyline). Kubernetes / Tanzu Kubernetes Grid. Experience in highly secure, mission-critical environments.
