The School of Construction and Engineering is looking for a Learning Assistant to support our students with theory and practical activities in Brickwork.
This exciting opportunity will allow the right individual to pass on their knowledge of the Brickwork industry to our students.
This is a hands-on role in our workshops, supervising and coaching students whilst assisting the lecturers. If you have a flair for passing your knowledge on to others, a strong sense of responsibility and the ability to act as a role model, this could be just the job for you.
You will support with the setup and preparation of classrooms, workshops, and resources; working to ensure all equipment and stock is maintained and meets the needs of the students and industry requirements.
You will assist students with their practical work and impart your industry experience to further develop our students' employability skills relevant to their career goals.
The successful candidate should have current industry knowledge and ideally, have relevant qualifications at level 2 & 3.
This is a full-time position working 37 hours per week.
MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB
To provide practical support for teaching and learning and supervision of practical work areas to ensure a high-quality student learning experience.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Supervise students, under the oversight of teaching staff, within the learning environment to assist in developing specialist skills and ensure safe working practices.
2. Demonstrate the correct use of equipment and handling of materials to students to assist in developing their skills and ensure safe working practices.
3. Contribute to the supervision of student recreational activities and educational visits to provide a high-quality student experience.
4. Act as a role model for students to promote high standards of conduct and behaviour.
5. Supervise and maintain designated practical work areas, regularly checking to ensure effective and efficient support to teachers and learners, a high standard of cleanliness and adherence to health and safety requirements.
6. Regularly check, maintain and as necessary repair equipment in accordance with College guidelines to ensure it is safe and ready for use when required.
7. Prepare and, as appropriate, construct equipment and materials for use by teaching staff and students to assist in the delivery of teaching and learning.
8. Give technical advice to staff and students on the selection and use of equipment and materials for teaching and learning purposes and, as appropriate, prepare written technical guidelines for the use of equipment and processes.
9. Operate a booking system to control the allocation and usage of equipment and resources for teaching and learning.
10. Monitor and maintain stock levels of consumables and order supplies to ensure appropriate materials are available when needed to support the learning process.
11. Maintain inventories of equipment in accordance with College procedures.
12. Safely dispose of waste materials to maintain a safe learning environment.
13. Undertake and maintain risk assessments for designated processes, and ensure the implementation of agreed control measures and procedures, to ensure a safe and healthy learning environment.
14. Provide first aid in the event of an accident within the practical work area.
Salary: Up to 24,086.81 per annum depending on qualifications and experience.
