Our client is a renowned Engineering Consultancy with over 1000 employees and offices spread throughout the UK and Europe. In Manchester, a dedicated Civil and Structural Power team has been established to support the expanding power sector. This team operates independently, handling power projects in conjunction with the broader Civil and Structural team.
Due to the continued growth in this sector, the team is now seeking to appoint several Principal Project Engineers. These Principal Engineers will be responsible not only for some design work but also for managing the overall project, which typically includes cost management, resource management, client liaison, and delivery management.
The role will focus on power projects, such as the ongoing project involving a subsea cable between France and England, where the team is tasked with designing the converter station on the UK side. While the focus will be on civil aspects, a comprehensive understanding of how all disciplines integrate to ensure successful project delivery is essential.
The Principal Project Engineer will oversee various site elements related to power projects, including but not limited to:
* Transition stations
* Substation buildings
* Power station infrastructure
In addition to these technical responsibilities, the role will encompass managing:
* Project costs
* Resource allocation
* Program management
* Client communications
* Interdisciplinary coordination
* Quality assurance
Day-to-day responsibilities include:
* Managing client and internal meetings to discuss project requirements and updates
* Conducting design reviews and quality checks
* Coordinating and advising younger team members on design work
* Potential site visits across the UK
Depending on the project and its scale, the Principal Engineer may be involved in both hands-on design work and leading the project. While specific experience in the power sector is not required, a willingness to develop expertise in this area is essential.
The ideal candidate will have:
* A degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
* Chartered status or be working towards it
* Experience in managing project delivery
* Proven leadership skills in guiding project teams
* Technical competence in infrastructure design and coordination
* Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
Benefits include:
* Pension matching up to 6%
* Annual discretionary bonus
* 28 days of paid holiday (including 3 days at Christmas)
* Paid bank holidays (approximately 8 days)
* Sick pay
* Private medical insurance
* Payment of professional fees
* Access to a People Portal offering various discounts (e.g., Cycle to Work, Gym Flex, retail, holidays, phones, etc.)
* Life Assurance at 4x annual salary
* Free parking in a secure car park
