MK College Group has an exciting opportunity for a passionate and engaging Welding Tutor to join the team based at HMP Rochester; a prison undergoing a period of expansion due to the recent merger with the adjacent prison, Cookham Wood.
As a Welding Tutor, you will engage prison-based learners through the delivery of creative classes and engaging resources. The course is City and Guilds Level 1, with enhancement to develop Level 2 skills. Learners have access to MIG and TIG welding with various rods and materials. Each group consists of 8 learners with full safety measures and individual welding bays.
Many learners have diverse needs and learning abilities, often having had negative educational experiences. As a successful Welding Tutor, you will communicate effectively, motivate, and provide a positive learning experience that can impact their future. Ideally, you will hold an IQA qualification (or be prepared to work towards it) and support quality assurance across the construction teaching team.
This role involves working with learners from all backgrounds in a classroom environment, connecting professionally, supporting their learning, and enabling them to achieve success through qualifications and confidence-building skills applicable to employment and education.

ABOUT HMP ROCHESTER
HMP Rochester is a Category C prison, holding approximately 950 adult male sentenced offenders across two sites. The prison has a rich history and focuses on reducing reoffending through accredited programmes and vocational training.
Courses include Maths, English, IT, catering, art, construction skills, and more. Prisoners are supported to gain qualifications and develop skills for a productive, crime-free life. Staff play an essential role in this journey.
The education delivery hours are Monday to Thursday 8:45 am – 11:30 am, 1:45 pm – 4:30 pm, and on Fridays 8:45 am – 11:30 am, with staff working on-site 8:15 am – 4:45 pm each day and 8:15 am – 1:15 pm on Fridays. Class sizes typically range from 8-12 learners.
HMP Rochester is located near the M2 and M20, offering free on-site parking and facilities including gyms, a library, and coffee services.
