ActionAid UK (AAUK) is a leading international charity committed to achieving social justice and women and girl’s rights. As a member of the global ActionAid federation, spanning 71 countries, they see their unique role as a champion and platform for women’s rights organisations and feminist movements that are driving transformative change within their communities and beyond.
Fundraising for the wider federation is one of AAUK’s most significant responsibilities, and it’s vital that they continue to make a major contribution to resourcing our worldwide operations. Their new UK Strategy 2025 to 2028 articulates an ambitious and exciting vision, with an overarching objective being to decolonise their systems and practices to tackle the root causes of inequality and injustice.
They're determined to make the transformative move to a truly flexible funding strategy, which in practice means making grants without mainstream structures of conditionality. They recognise that their commitment to this new ethics of philanthropy means they won’t be able to pursue every source of funds, but believe that their supporters want them always to act in accordance with AAUK's principles. In an environment of increasing competition for all types of charitable income, they believe that this creates a clear point of difference in their case for support.
The new Funding Director will build and roll out an innovative strategy by which AAUK can make an ever-greater difference for women and girls. You’ll lead AAUK’s busy and multi-disciplinary Funding Department, ensuring it’s a highly effective and innovative function that supports ActionAid’s strategic plans. And as part of the Executive Leadership Team, you’ll model strategic, visible leadership across the organisation and demonstrate your personal commitment to ActionAid’s principles of decolonisation, anti-racism, and social justice.
Candidates will be experienced income-generation professionals with an impressive track record of creating and implementing innovative fundraising strategies, and delivering consistent income growth. Previous experience of managing complex teams or departments is essential, and you’ll be just as skilled at engaging and motivating a professional team as operating at an executive leadership level. Closely aligned with AAUK’s values and committed to antiracism, gender equality, and social justice, you’ll embrace this opportunity to rewrite the handbook of charity income from first principles.
