This is an exciting new opportunity for an experiencedpharmacy professional to support the long-term development and sustainabilityof the future pharmacy workforce across our integrated care system (ICS),working as a key member of our ICS workforce development team.
You will build relationships with keystakeholders across our wider primary care landscape, supporting the deliveryof the Somerset Health and Care Strategy, Primary Care Strategy and the NHSLong Term Workforce Plan by providing pharmacy workforce leadership across thesystem. They will deliver on a number of key objectives including:
-Implementing the requirements of the reform ofInitial Education and Training for pharmacists (including independentprescribing), and expending capacity for and increasing attraction to highquality integrated training placements
-Addressing the current poor uptake of careers inpharmacy by Somerset residents (compared to other systems), maximisingopportunities from the new MPharm degree based in Plymouth
-Creating new and innovative roles to create a moreflexible and resilient pharmacy workforce for the future
The role is offered at wte (15 hours/week) as a fixedterm commitment for 18 months, based out of our offices in Yeovil but withpotential for some remote working and also face to face contact withstakeholders across the Somerset system.
Main duties of the job
The Primary Care PharmacyWorkforce Transformation Lead will engage with system workforce developmentcolleagues and key stakeholders from partner organisations to convene and facilitatecollaborative pharmacy workforce development activity between primary careproviders/primary care networks, and between primary care and other sectors ofpharmacy practice. They will deliver the following core responsibilities:
Createand promote an integrated, collaborative and inclusive culture and approach todeveloping the future pharmacy workforce, enabling and supporting seniorpharmacy leaders across all localities to work together to deliver asustainable pharmacy workforce with the skills to meet the needs of ourpopulation in primary care
Expandthe number and range of pharmacy placements in primary care to meet therequirements of the new MPharm undergraduate programme.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
The Somerset Integrated Care System Primary Care PharmacyWorkforce Transformation Lead role leads the development and implementation ofthe primary care pharmacy workforce transformation ambition of the SomersetIntegrated Medicines Optimisation strategy and the Somerset People Strategy,across the Somerset system.
The overall purpose is to contribute to improving the healthof the population by developing a collaborative, integrated, sustainable and high-qualitypharmacy workforce in Somerset, focusing on the current and future requirementsfor the pharmacy workforce in primary care.
This includes delivering the requirements of the new initialeducation and training standards for pharmacists in primary care, ensuringadequate trainee pipelines for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians, andimproving recruitment and retention through the creation of innovative ways ofworking.
KEY RESPONSIBILTIES OF THE ROLE
The Primary Care Pharmacy Workforce Transformation Lead willengage with system workforce development colleagues and key stakeholders frompartner organisations to convene and facilitate collaborative pharmacyworkforce development activity between primary care providers/primary carenetworks, and between primary care and other sectors of pharmacy practice.

Expand the number of high-quality foundation traineepharmacist and pre-registration pharmacy technician trainee placements based inprimary care, to meet the demands of future workforce plans.
Develop effective supervision and practice educationcapacity to meet the needs of learners in primary care with particular emphasison independent prescribing skills.
Support the development of PCNs as multidisciplinarylearning organisations and increase opportunities for multidisciplinaryapproaches to education and training.
Support the development of a more collaborative, system-wideapproach to promoting pharmacy roles in primary care, to enable positiverecruitment and increased uptake of pharmacy careers.

2. High level of understanding of current policy and workforce development challenges within the public sector/the NHS and the complexities of system transformation programmes
3. Up to date knowledge of the Initial Education and Training (IET) of pharmacy technicians and reforms to the IET of pharmacists.
4. Up to date knowledge of the primary care landscape and the impact for the pharmacy workforce, including the implications and opportunities of the Additional Roles Reimbursement Scheme
5. Experience delivering successful strategic workforce development projects
6. Experience of managing risks and accurate reporting
7. Experience of working autonomously to lead and deliver strategic change across more than one organisation

8. Registered pharmacy professional
9. Educated to Masters level or equivalent experience in practice
10. Extensive current experience and knowledge of pharmacy and of primary care services
11. Project management qualification or relevant experience of change management processes
