Job summary Are you a nurse working in or would like to work in children's services and interested in training to become a Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (5-19 team), then we would like to hear from you. As a SCPHN working in Derbyshire County, you can make a real difference to children, young people, families and communities. You will play a fundamental role in the delivery of universal and targeted interventions as part of the Healthy Child Programme, preventing social exclusion, deprivation and tackling important public health issues. You will spend time in practice in the community (placement to be confirmed with successful candidate) and also in University for the academic element of the course at either The University of Derby or Sheffield Hallam University. All candidates are required to have current NMC registration (on application) and be educated to Bachelors (1st degree) level, or equivalent, to be eligible to undertake the academic element of the programme at Level 7. The academic course is full time for one year and will commence in September 2025 and it is fully funded and salaried (Agenda for Change Band 5, mid-point). However, you will commence practice from the beginning of August 2025 in your placement area. You will be on a 13 month secondment and following successful completion of the course, you will be offered a position within the 5-19 team within Derbyshire County as a qualified SCPHN (base to be confirmed nearer the time of completion) Main duties of the job 5-19 Specialist Community Public Health Nurses (SCPHN) are ideally placed to work within the community and are a crucial part of the 0-19 healthcare team. It is a diverse role which involves working with healthcare colleagues, alongside partner agencies to improve the public health outcomes of children, young people and families within a defined geographical area. You will need excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and be able to demonstrate a sound understanding of public health services for children, young people and their families. You will be confident in delivering key health messages in a wide variety of settings, ranging from 1:1 sessions to year group assemblies. You must be able to prioritise tasks and manage your time effectively. As a 5-19 SCPHN you can make a real difference to the public health outcomes for children, young people and families within their communities. You will play a fundamental role in safeguarding children, preventing social exclusion, deprivation and tackling important public health issues. You will work under the supervision of a Practice Educator and a fully qualified Practice Supervisor (SCPHN 5-19 Public Health Nurse) in one of our community bases. You must be available to commence this secondment with a preferred start date of 4th August 2025. Annual leave for the duration of the course follows the academic timetable as set by your chosen University.
