To lead a frontline operational team for transfer stations and Household Recycling Centres and undertake operational programmes, projects and assignments as allocated.
Responsible for the team, you will monitor the operation of the service, ensuring compliance with all legislation, regulations, and financial and budgetary parameters. You will ensure that operations meet service goals and contractual key measures in line with business and customer expectations, whilst demonstrating behavioural competencies.
The role requires the post holder to challenge existing practices in order to improve overall customer service whilst seeking value for money and long-term economic benefits to the business. As a key member of the operations and leadership team, ensure talent management across the service and ensure effective use of resources in achieving key performance targets.
Ensure that all services are compliant with health & safety, current disposal/handling/transportation legislation and codes of practice and environmental regulations.
Preparation of annual budgets, ensuring that services are delivered within budget and all financial targets are met.
Deliver the objectives, vision, and values of the Company through a motivated workforce whilst ensuring that communications and messaging are consistent throughout.
Drive a culture of continuous improvements and develop opportunities to improve the effectiveness of the sites and service delivery. Mentor and coach team members, providing developmental opportunities to support succession planning. Provide leadership to team members to ensure that procedures are followed and effectively deliver high quality, value for money services.
Collaborative working within cross-divisional teams to provide integrated waste solutions using best practice and through continuous improvement. Improve, innovate and enhance the waste and resource management service whilst ensuring legislative compliance.
Develop, review and implement operational policies and procedures. Ensure that all management systems are effectively organised and operated, to deliver a productive service with accurate management information. Ensure that systems and processes are in place to monitor and track customer feedback and queries. Ensure all are resolved and appropriate action and/or service improvement is taken.
Relationship building internally and externally (customers, suppliers, employees and BCC), always ensuring that we deliver a great customer experience.
To lead allocated projects as directed. This will include the installation and implementation of the Avonmouth MRF facility and may include due diligence, pricing analysis and the configuration, management and implementation of new services systems or practices.
Be part of the managerial team responsible for the delivery of winter maintenance activities carried out on behalf of the Council. Act as the responsible person for gritting activities when allocated on the rota.

* Proven extensive experience in leading processing/material recovery facilities and achieving key results.
* Waste industry knowledge including relevant legislation.
* WAMITAB Level 4 Operator Competence in relevant waste category.
* Excellent literacy & analytical skills.
* Experience of delivering change programmes.
* Highly motivated with a "can do" attitude and the ability to use own initiative.
* Good attention to detail and the ability to prioritise effectively.
* Ability to work under pressure and to make decisions to tight deadlines.
* Self-driven, results-orientated with a positive outlook and a clear focus on high quality and budgets.
* Project management capability.
* Robust understanding of finance, budgeting, including profit and loss.
* Current driving licence valid for use in the United Kingdom.
* IOSH Managing Safely.
* Educated to degree level.
* CPC transport operations qualification.
* Relevant Management Qualification.
* Experience of working in a local government contract.
* NEBOSH National General Certificate.
* People and Health & Safety management in a unionised environment.
* Union negotiation skills at a senior level.
* Winter Service - Unit 621 (Manager/Supervisor) qualification.
* Good knowledge of existing and impending environmental and health and safety legislation.
There may be a requirement to work at other Company locations. There may be a requirement to work a number of bank holidays and Saturdays after the bank holidays. Required to work reasonable overtime in line with the needs of the service. Required to act as Winter Maintenance Manager.
