Job summary
We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our friendly, dedicated, and expanding team of professionals for a one-year fixed term post as a Band 5 or 6 Biomedical Scientist. You must have an IBMS registration certificate.
You will be a proactive member of the Blood Sciences Team. Excellent communication skills are essential, as is the ability to work within a team processing a high workload of specimens. You should have great multi-tasking ability, excellent organisational skills, attention to detail, and be able to appropriately prioritise urgent work.
You must be an HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist and have an IBMS accredited BSc in Biomedical Science or equivalent.
The department has a specialist portfolio training programme in place and has a proven track record of success. The successful applicant will be expected to take an active role in the training and development of staff within the department from MLA to Band 5 BMS.
The department operates a 24/7 shift system covering day shifts, late shifts, weekends, and Bank Holidays, which the successful applicant must participate in as required. The majority of night shifts are covered by permanent night shift staff; however, you would be expected to cover for annual leave or sickness.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be part of a team providing a Haematology/BT service to the Trust. The team comprises Medical Laboratory Assistants, Biomedical Scientists, Clinical Scientists, clerical staff, and Medical staff.
The post holder will be expected to understand the need for analytical quality and clinical urgency and take appropriate action when finding abnormal pathology results to maintain the highest standards of patient care.
The post holder will be expected to be registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and must have UK-based laboratory experience.

Essential
* Be able to problem solve.

Knowledge and Experience
Essential
* Operational experience in an NHS Haematology/BT laboratory.
* Understanding of quality standards.
* Understanding of organisational objectives.
* Able to demonstrate commitment to service improvements.
* Experience of laboratory computer systems.
* Understanding of the critical importance of confidentiality.
Desirable
* Experience of document management systems (e.g. Q-Pulse).
* Extensive band 6 experience (D for band 6 role)
Qualifications and Training
Essential
* BSc or equivalent in Biomedical Science.
* Registration with HCPC.
* Evidence of CPD.
* IBMS Specialist Certificate (E for band 6 role)
