We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our expanding countywide recruitment and development team. The role includes managing student placements, involvement in the recruitment process, developing the existing workforce, and assisting in the delivery of modern apprenticeships. You will also link with the universities, attend trust-wide and theatre-based recruitment events, support and encourage staff with mandatory training requirements, and participate in governance projects. The successful candidate will have 2 years of experience as an Anaesthetic/Scrub/Recovery practitioner and will need to be a highly organized individual who can lead a team ensuring the highest standards of patient safety and care are maintained. Excellent communication skills and flexibility will be essential characteristics of anyone wishing to apply for this post. Deputising for members of the Band 7 team will be a requirement of anyone wishing to apply for this post. The teaching and development of junior colleagues will be a part of your role; therefore, it is essential that you possess a relevant mentorship qualification or teaching experience. This is a full-time recruitment and development position; however, job share could be considered. Due to the county-wide nature of this post, a full driver's license will be required.
Main Duties of the Job
To ensure high standards of patient care at all times through the effective management of staff and resources.
1. To lead a regular programme of education and development for registered and unregistered staff to optimum potential.
2. To promote the role of the theatre practitioner as the patient advocate throughout the peri-operative process.
3. To communicate effectively with all members of the multi-disciplinary team to coordinate all aspects of patient care.
4. To liaise and work closely with the person taking continuing responsibility for the operating theatres.
5. To accept personal responsibility and accountability for infection prevention and control practice.
6. To deputise for the relevant senior team leader as necessary.
7. Where appropriate, this post will involve working across the sites of the WAHT.

Job Responsibilities
Management
* To be actively involved in staff management issues within the team in support of the senior team leader, in addition to actively participating in the management of the theatre department as necessary.
* To take all measures to ensure safety and report all accidents/incidents/near misses to the theatre coordinator or senior team leader.
* To assist the theatre management team with risk management, participating in the identification of risks.
* To participate in official investigations where required.
* To have an understanding of the theatre budget, ensuring efficient and effective utilization of resources.
* To be conversant with trust policies and procedures and to participate in the development of policies/procedures where appropriate.
* To assist with the monitoring of staff attendance and take a supporting role in the maintenance of day-to-day discipline within the team.
* To inform the senior team leader/theatre matron of staff failing to meet the required standard of performance, taking appropriate action where required.
* To participate in the selection and recruitment of staff.
* To undertake staff appraisals and identify the training needs to develop staff and the service.
* To facilitate a team and no blame culture that allows staff to learn and develop.
* To assist and participate in the induction programme for newly appointed staff.
* To be responsible for the equipment in own work area, ensuring that it is used safely and effectively, kept in working order, and properly maintained.
Education and Training
* Participate in the supervision, teaching, and appropriate assessment of junior and new staff within the department.
* Act as a mentor to newly qualified/newly appointed staff.
* Contribute to the development of training programmes in accordance with identified needs in the department and in conjunction with other team members and the education facilitator for theatres.
* Provide feedback from in-house/external training courses in order to disseminate knowledge.
* To undertake/participate in research and development to ensure good clinical practice.
Professional
* To maintain an environment conducive to the training/development needs of individuals and support staff to develop clinical and managerial skills.
* To maintain a wide knowledge of health/surgical/theatre issues.
* To encourage staff to participate in clinical supervision.
* To maintain a professional attitude at all times, developing the role of the theatre practitioner in the best interests of the patient and in accordance with the nursing and ODP codes of conduct.

To ensure that all trust standards are maintained and monitored to improve the quality of care to all whom come into contact with services provided by this trust.

Person Specification
Experience
* Competent to scrub/assist/recover a wide range of elective and emergency patients.
* Experience of working in a team leader capacity; knowledge of day-to-day management of theatre suite.
* Experience of clinical supervision and coaching.
Qualifications
* Registered Nurse Level 1 (currently registered with NMC) or Registered ODP (currently registered with HCPC). Evidence of teaching qualification. Evidence of relevant post-registration education. Evidence of portfolio development.
* Management course, BSc, or evidence of working towards.
