What is the role?
The role involves working from the Housing Depot to fulfil the Green & Clean purpose. Typical daily tasks of this role include removal and disposal of bulky and green waste, window cleaning, jet-washing, bin cleaning and sweeping large communal areas using specialist equipment. This requires manual handling application throughout the working day.
As Housing Depot Operative you will be required to drive a caged tipper or similar vehicle up to 7.5 tonnes. A full UK driving licence and experience driving caged tippers and large vans (up to 3.5 tonne) is essential whilst experience driving up to 7.5 tonne vehicles and towing large trailers is desirable.
If you do not have a licence which allows you to drive these larger vehicles or tow trailers, training will be provided. You will need to successfully complete these qualifications during your probationary period, as you are required to drive up to 7.5 tonne vehicles and tow trailers for this role. Using these vehicles, you will transport specialist equipment for use on site, collect bulky waste, fly-tipped items, rubble, garden waste, supermarket trolleys and any other items that require removal and disposal.
Waste collected will be disposed of by Operatives in accordance with legislation and regulations at local amenity sites licensed to receive and process such waste. You will report bulky items that need investigating to help identify instances of fly-tipping as well as report tenancy issues to relevant departments. In addition you will report cleaning and gardening demands to the local Green and Clean management team and communal housing repairs to local area housing offices.
You will use the jet washing machine to remove graffiti and clean communal areas such as balconies panels and pathways. You will also be required to clean communal bins, use the pedestrian sweeper to clean large communal areas and wash communal windows using long-reach equipment. This is an external role so it is expected that you will work in all weathers.
In order to allow us to effectively run our Green & Clean service, you may be required to work in other teams, such as Public Convenience cleaning, general estate cleaning in any of our Housing areas as well as locking and unlocking various sites.
You must have a good understanding of Health & Safety practices and be able to demonstrate safe methods of work which promotes the health and safety of yourself and others. You will need to use equipment correctly and carry out regular care and maintenance of your equipment. Flexibility is imperative to the role, as you may be required to work extended shifts for the needs of the service, for which flexible working arrangements will be allowed. These could be at short notice and include late evenings and weekends.
