Occupational Therapist - Wāhi Tautoko (Adult Inpatient Group)

Mō te tūnga | About the role
This is an exciting opportunity for an occupational therapist to support the opening of Building 8b (previously Tupuna).
Wāhi Tautoko is a 10-bedded service located in Building 8. We aim to support consumers that require extended assessment or treatment following an admission to the acute inpatient service prior to discharge.
This may include:
* tāngata whaiora who are presenting to services for the first time that may require extended assessment and support around management of their symptoms.
* tāngata whaiora that have an identified discharge pathway on admission - i.e. home or supported accommodation - but may require some additional assessment and upskilling to safely and successfully transition into the community.
* tāngata whaiora who may have limited social supports and require support to increase their engagement in their local communities.
The goals of the service include:
* Provision of a safe and supportive environment to provide extended assessment, treatment and rehabilitation following an admission to the adult acute service.
* Teaching skills to help support illness management and to support consumers to live the life they want to live.
* Support development of structure and meaningful routines.
Ko wai koe | About You
In this role, you will be responsible for:
* Supporting the facilitation of the therapeutic programme, including individual and group-based interventions in collaboration with other members of the MDT and the programme coordinator.
* Completing occupational therapy assessments and formulating interventions to meet individual strengths and minimise vulnerabilities.
* Contributing to MDT treatment planning and discharge planning, including actively supporting community integration.
* Identifying meaningful occupations and exploring vocational and recreational goal setting.
* Demonstrating good communication skills supporting effective team functioning.
* Working with tangata whaiora to enable optimum safety and function during this phase of their recovery.
* Working with tangata whaiora from diverse social and cultural backgrounds and bringing your enthusiasm and passion to achieve the best outcome.
* NZ Registered Occupational Therapist with current Annual Practicing Certificate (essential) and full NZ drivers licence.
* Previous experience working within a large multi-disciplinary team is desirable.
* Exceptional communication, organisation, and time management skills.
* As an effective communicator, you will have a positive, engaging and solution-focused attitude to your work.
* Mental health experience is preferred; however, applicants with no mental health experience will be considered.
