Data Centre Platform Engineer

Your role as a Platform Engineer will be working within the Data Centre Platforms team to provide BAU and project support for a majority Microsoft stack in a highly available environment, including implementation, production support, project implementation support, performance monitoring and tuning, configuration management, upgrades, patching, data migration and automation. The Data Centre Platforms Engineers liaise with various parts of the organisation to support all aspects of the infrastructure across the business.
You will be based in our Leighton Buzzard office, with some flexibility to work from home. This role will require national travel occasionally as well as an On-call shift and out of hours work, as required.
Your Key Responsibilities will include:
1. Design, implement, and maintain IT infrastructure components, including servers, networks, and storage systems.
2. Support internal team projects and initiatives including continuous improvements to current infrastructure solutions and implementation of new technologies.
3. Diagnose and resolve technical issues to ensure system availability, reliability, and optimal performance.
4. Apply security best practices to protect sensitive data and safeguard systems against threats.
5. Work collaboratively with IT operations teams to investigate and resolve infrastructure-related problems.
6. Conduct proactive system monitoring and efficiently address escalations from other IT teams.
7. Develop and maintain accurate technical documentation and reports related to infrastructure operations.
8. Manage incident tickets and problem resolution processes with a detailed and structured approach.
9. Assist in infrastructure capacity planning, resource allocation, and execution of change implementations.
10. Support the development, testing, and deployment of automation solutions and scripting to streamline operations.
11. Identify opportunities for infrastructure automation and drive initiatives to improve efficiency.
12. Provide technical expertise and support for projects as required, ensuring successful implementation.
We are looking for someone who has the following technical skills:
1. Infrastructure Management: Strong knowledge of managing servers, networks, and storage systems, including experience with high-availability environments.
2. Microsoft Technologies: Expertise in the Microsoft stack, such as Windows Server, Hyper-V, Active Directory, O365 and other relevant Microsoft tools.
3. Troubleshooting and Problem Solving: Proficiency in diagnosing and resolving technical issues, ensuring system performance and uptime.
4. Security Best Practices: Understanding of IT security principles, including implementation of security measures to protect data and systems.
5. Performance Monitoring and Optimization: Ability to monitor infrastructure performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement tuning strategies.
6. Automation and Scripting: Familiarity with automation tools and scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell) to streamline processes.
7. Configuration and Patch Management: Experience with configuration management, upgrades, and patching to maintain system integrity.
8. Azure Public Cloud: Hands-on experience in managing, configuring, and optimizing Azure cloud platforms and services.
