As a Medical Malpractice Underwriter, you will be responsible for underwriting and evaluating medical malpractice insurance applications with a focus on UK business, ensuring that risks are assessed accurately, and policies are priced appropriately. This is an excellent opportunity to further develop business, not just in the Med Mal space but in associated healthcare areas in the future. A strong interest in being market facing and operating as a development underwriter would be highly advantageous as well as rewarding.
Key Responsibilities
* Underwrite medical malpractice insurance policies for healthcare professionals, clinics, hospitals, and other medical entities.
* Assess risk exposure by reviewing medical histories, claims records, and risk management practices of applicants.
* Work closely with brokers, agents, and clients to gather necessary information and provide expert advice.
* Determine appropriate pricing for policies based on risk analysis, loss history, and market trends.
* Develop and maintain strong relationships with key clients and stakeholders in the medical and insurance sectors.
* Monitor claims trends and adjust underwriting strategies to ensure profitability and long-term success.
* Collaborate with internal teams to ensure the accuracy and efficiency of the underwriting process.
* Stay up to date with developments in medical law, insurance regulations, and market conditions.
Skills and Experience
* Proven experience in medical malpractice underwriting or a related field in the insurance industry.
* This could be someone who is taking a step up to Underwriter or Senior Underwriter level.
* Strong understanding of medical risks, healthcare regulations, and relevant laws.
* Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage with clients, brokers, and internal stakeholders effectively.
* Ability to assess complex risk profiles and make sound decisions based on data analysis.
* Proficient in underwriting software and Microsoft Office Suite.
* Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
* A proactive, solution-oriented mindset with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Qualifications
* A degree in a relevant field (e.g., Insurance, Healthcare, Risk Management) is preferred, though not essential.
* Professional underwriting qualifications (e.g., ACII, Cert CII) would be an advantage.
