About the role
We have an exciting opportunity to join the Waitrose Quality & Regulatory and Technical team as a Product Safety Manager.
The qualified candidate will be the business expert on product safety and microbiology and application of product safety within a commercial setting. Developing the microbiology, chemical and authenticity surveillance programme and management of the product safety policy for Waitrose.
You will deliver and monitor the horizon scanning internal process and inform the business of risk. You will work collaboratively with all functions within the trading teams, third parties and suppliers to deliver compliance and achieve shared KPIs.
Some of your key responsibilities include but not limited to:
Providing review on arising and current issues to ensure brand reputation is maintained.
Lead and drive the product safety rationales and ensure compliance within the business.
Drive food safety and authenticity initiatives. Ensuring category teams are supported with the expert knowledge to make product and supplier decisions.
Leading the Food safety Policy with the regulatory team. Ensuring the policy is up to date, trained and compliance is maintained within the business.
Essential Skills
* Degree in Microbiology, food science or similar
* Experience in managing food safety outbreaks and extensive knowledge of product safety
* HACCP training, Lead Assessor
* Specialist training e.g allergens, microbiology, pesticide management, cosmetics regulations, specification management and product labelling legal requirements
Desirable Skills
* Relevant Food Science, Microbiology degree or equivalent formal qualification
* Good commercial understanding
* Ability to train technical teams
* Evidence of manufacturing experience either direct or indirect
