Description
Responsibilities:
1. Promote and nurture a healthy workplace culture, including participating in the orientation program and regularly attending department staff meetings.
2. Lead Spiritual Care Committee.
3. Work collaboratively with HR to provide educational sessions and activities to enhance workplace spirituality.
4. Develop Spiritual Care training awareness materials and other communications to increase employee awareness of the services offered by the department.
5. Ensure pastoral care is provided to residents and staff.
6. Oversee that new residents receive a pastoral visit and that the completion of an assessment and care plan determining residents’ spiritual and religious needs and wishes occurs.
7. Complete documentation and accurate records as required.
8. Visit with residents and provide spiritual and religious care as requested by residents and per referral from staff.
9. Visit with family members as requested and appropriate.
10. When requested, arrange for faith group-specific spiritual care.
11. Plan and support programs/activities based on resident assessments.
12. Facilitate one-on-one, small group programs on units and Home wide programs.
13. Facilitate or co-facilitate religious services and special services as needed and appropriate.
14. Arrange for weekly chapel services reflecting a variety of denominations.
15. Assist and participate in regular Celebration of Life Services.
16. When required, arrange for providing specific faith tradition services.
Qualifications:
The qualifications needed to join our family are as follows:
1. Master’s Degree with relevant theological, divinity, or spiritual studies from a recognized institution accredited by the Association of Theological Schools.
2. Minimum five years practical and related experience.
3. Certification as a Spiritual Care Practitioner or Psycho-Spiritual Therapist with the Canadian Association of Spiritual Care (CASC) preferred. Or, at minimum, have completed two units of SPE with CASC.
4. Current membership with Canadian Association for Spiritual Care.
5. Endorsement by a recognized religious or faith group.
6. Experience working in the context of death and dying and/or palliative care considered an asset.
7. Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
8. Computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
9. To show evidence of being focused on people’s feelings when interacting and knowing how to turn a task into positive social interaction.
10. To undertake and meet all legal requirements within a context of promoting individuals’ rights and measuring/reducing elements of risk.
11. Must provide a complete and current (within six months) Vulnerable Sector Check (including a Criminal Background Check) or be willing to obtain one.
12. As a condition of employment, candidates are required to submit documented results of TB testing (within the last six months or within 14 days upon hire) or a chest X-ray (within the last year), as per Public Health requirements.
13. Two supervisory references required.
14. Provide proof of all required vaccines. The Employer strongly recommends to “stay up to date” with the recommended vaccines. Vaccination requirements are subject to changes as determined by the Employer.
