Senior Mechanical Engineer

Salary:
Circa £50,000 depending on skills and experience.
What you’ll be doing:
1. Generate design concepts and solutions from first principles to meet project and customer requirements, supported by sketches, hand calculations and associated data packs.
2. Prepare and present engineering data packs for internal review and in a customer forum.
3. Check and approve datasets (drawings/MBD) ensuring correctness to required standards and reflect design intent accurately.
4. Identify, define and manage work packages to de-risk areas of the product design early in the lifecycle.
5. Be competent in the validation and verification of requirements using appropriate tools (e.g. DOORS) and managing these through the engineering lifecycle.
6. Work collaboratively across all engineering disciplines, liaising with technical specialists as required.
7. Manage the work of mechanical engineers and technicians and take technical responsibility for the design solutions and technical data packs produced.
8. Peer-check the work of other mechanical engineers which will include designs, design data, hand calculations, and technical reports.
Your Skills and Experience:
Essential:
1. Meet the requirements of UK-SPEC at the Chartered Engineer Level.
2. Demonstrate a proven track record of product development from concept through to production, with strong technical ability for applying knowledge and experience to solve problems, including new technologies and innovations for complex engineering systems.
3. Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related subject is preferred, or demonstrable equivalent experience.
4. Ability to apply physics and engineering principles to derive/validate designs.
5. Competence in the use of CAD tools (CREO preferred) to prepare design models and technical datasets (drawings/MBD) is required.
Desirable:
1. Experience related to areas including avionic systems, optical displays, mechatronics, electronics packaging, anthropometrics, design with composites, additive layer manufacture and test and measurement equipment, will be of value in this role.
2. A capability to use specialist dynamic, structural and thermal analysis tools is an advantage including validation of the output of these tools.

The Design Team:
This role will provide Mechanical Engineering support for the design and development of new innovative designs, through to fault finding, diagnostics, and salvage of existing products. As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will have the ability to innovate exclusively and work with other Engineers/Technicians to develop ideas into a detailed scheme supported by calculations and reports to demonstrate compliance with requirements, which will include risk reduction testing as required. The expectation for a Senior Mechanical Engineer is to provide a high-quality service to customers, on time and within budget with minimum management oversight.
