Interviews are expected to take place week commencing 24 February 2025
The role is based in the Brotherton Library on the University campus with scope for it to be undertaken in a hybrid manner. We are also open to discussing flexible working arrangements.
Do you have significant experience in conservation and collections care and the passion and ability to manage an enthusiastic team? Would you relish the opportunity to lead the Collections Care team based within Cultural Collections & Galleries at the University of Leeds Libraries?
The Cultural Collections & Galleries team are responsible for hundreds of thousands of rare books, manuscripts, archives, artworks and other objects. The team is integral to teaching, learning and research and our Research Centre in the Brotherton Library is open to anyone wishing to examine material from the collections. We support opportunities for researchers, students and the general public to understand and appreciate our shared historical legacy, through preserving, researching and promoting our collections. Our bespoke exhibition spaces, the Treasures of the Brotherton Gallery and the Stanley and Audrey Burton Gallery, showcase our distinctive collections and allow us to tell stories in more detail through an events and activities programme.
The Conservation and Collections Care Manager is a key role within the University of Leeds Libraries. You will provide leadership for your team, and offer guidance and training on critical incident prevention, response and recovery. You will manage the materials budgets and be responsible for developing and maintaining the in-house conservation programme. You will also be part of the Critical Incident Planning Group for the wider University of Leeds Libraries.
Reporting to the Senior Curator, you will support wider University and Library strategic and cultural activities, and work with colleagues in the Cultural Collections & Galleries team to promote best practice for managing and accessing collections. You’ll have significant practical experience of working in a collections-care focussed role with an excellent awareness of collections management processes. You’ll also be an effective project and people manager with excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills.
